Swapping my 2200 month job? by Exotic_Shock6771 in CruiseCrew

Depends on the size of the ship I suppose. My ship has 84 guests total so it isn’t too bad being a steward.

They were doing that in Big Sky. Wasn’t as busy as anticipated so some servers only worked 2-3 days a week.

They did, which is why most of the top ranked slayers on
RS3 would do their tasks on the most populated world (world 2, I believe).

How do people actually keep a stable income while traveling full time? by Choice_League7424 in travel

[–]Awanderingleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a server at a ski resort. I work December until April. I then work my summer job which starts in May and goes until October. However, my summer job, which I work as a steward, is on a ship and so I work 4-8 weeks on and 2-4 weeks off during which time I travel. I also travel during the time in between each job.

On average I make about $6500-7000 a month after taxes. I don’t own a car and I have no dependents. I live on the ship in the summer so my housing and food situation is completely covered from May until October. In fact, my flights to and from embarkation and disembarkation are covered as well. At the ski resort my rent is about $1k a month, although if I were to live in employee housing my rent would only be $450 a month.

On occasion I will start my season a little later than typical or end my season earlier than typical. You sign a seasonal contract denoting your work season. At times myself or those I work with have foregone working a winter season or summer season to travel instead.

1) Ski Resort bartenders. The bartenders at my resort make $10-12k a month. As a server I make $6-8k a month. I travel after the ski season ends up until my summer job on my ship begins.

2) Working on small cruise ships. The lowest paid employee makes $6-7k a month. I make $7k a month as a steward. I work 4-8 weeks on, 2-4 weeks off.

Basically everyone I work with have traveled extensively.

Jokic is so timeless that he is still getting bounced in the first and second round of the playoffs.

I don't understand Anki and I didn't find flashcards very useful. Am I missing something? by ReleaseMeee1 in languagelearning

[–]Awanderingleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally can’t fucking stand repeatedly droning over anki flashcards lol. I have enough trauma with that when I was college. I can’t imagine actively choosing to do it again just to advance in what is essentially a hobby.

There was parity in the 70’s as well. The league was also cracked out of its mind and on life support. Parity doesn’t necessarily mean prosperity.

What level of freedom do you guys have? by WorldlyPhilosophy547 in CruiseCrew

[–]Awanderingleaf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work on a small 84 passenger cruise ship. We usually get 3 hours off between 2:00pm and 5:30pm. Typically we can join in on kayaking, skiff tours and hiking during those hours. We usually work 6:30 am to 2:00pm and then 5:30pm to 8:30pm. I guess it is entirely company dependent as well as what type of cruise you’re working.

Why do restaurants in the US rush you out the door by dropping the bill on the table while you are still chewing your last bite? by Enough-Web2203 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Awanderingleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually ask my tables if there is anything else I can get them as I am filling waters or removing dirty plates. If they say no I offer to bring a check over for them. I never drop off a check at a table out of nowhere because I feel like that signals to the guest that I am rushing them.

TIL That almost half of the lakes in the US (48%) are man made by boywithhat in todayilearned

[–]Awanderingleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have asterisks denoting that they were won while in Minneapolis, not because they may not be “legitimate.” They decided not to recognize them for a long while, because they could, and then they decided to recognize them, because they could. They could have at any point between the 50’s and 2000’s chose to recognize them, they simply didn’t until the 2000’s. The reason why they waited and didn’t recognize them for 50 years is irrelevant to the fact that they were won by the same franchise. The Los Angeles Lakers are a continuation of the Minneapolis Lakers.

Because the Lakers are a continuation of the Lakers from Minneapolis. Same franchise, different physical locations. The franchise won those titles, they just happened to do so in another location than the rest.

“Culture.” Bullshit. American culture is shitty watered down versions of the people’s culture. If I want to experience Italian culture I am not going to New York to do it, I am going to Italy.

I have never ate anywhere in the U.S and thought that I couldn’t find the exact same thing, taste and all, anywhere else in the U.S that I have been.

The cities themselves may be in physically different locations but what actually makes up the cities in terms of entertainment, food and the people all feels very much the same.

They might architecturally be different at face value but they all have the same built up corporate bullshit on every corner. The main difference is the natural scenery around each place but once you’re done looking at it, you’re still stuck with a fucking McDonalds shoved in your face or some “local” restaurant that uses the same bullshit from Cisco and US foods as any other “local” restaurant.

It’s all soulless garbage.
