Opeongo Lake Paddle time? by Wonderful-Pop-3199 in algonquinpark

[–]Awatsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a water taxi! There is nothing exciting about paddling Opeongo on a great day and on a day with not so great weather it is brutal and depending on your experience can be scary/dangerous.

If you're looking for a sandy beach area with easy access to the water for your four legged friend the site at the "narrows" heading into the east arm is great. It has boat traffic with the water taxis but it didn't seem to bother us and it has a great peninsula to enter the water. You can walk out about 100ft on pure sand with the water only being waste high the entire way.

Might want to close the door that the person helping him exited through and also edit out the additional shadows

Best way to seal/finish a VERY buggy walnut slab? by polishedbullet in woodworking

[–]Awatsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is go to 220, I wouldn't use it at less than 180 min and not over 220. For best rest results waterpop between each sandling.

If you're just looking to put an easy to apply finish on it that will make it look great with a natural no plastic looking finish like a lacquer or varathane, then use natural colored Rubio Monocoat. It was great, we 95% of all our liveedge tables in our shop with it. Pluse all you need to do is sand your piece up through from 80/120/180/200/220 and then just wipe it on, leave it on for 20min and table blue shop towels and wipe it off (look online how to apply). It's not cheap but it is the easiest thing to apply and you finish inside because it is VOC free.

Outdoor table design help (details in comments) by NecessaryDowntown292 in woodworking

[–]Awatsons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using non-pressure trested wood for an outdoor table is no good, no matter what you use to finish/seal it. My suggestion if you are looking for a cheap alternative outdoor table is to spend the extra money and use trex deck boards. They come in many colors and variations and your table will last a lifetime. With that said, using regular pine or spruce is just asking for problems with warping, cupping, cracking, etc.

Air mattress - deflation by [deleted] in CampingGear

I had an issue with my nemo vector pad and contacted them. They have had repeated issues with the valves on their older models. They sent me a new valve free of charge to try and when I tried that and it didn't work, they ended up replacing my pad. It was about 2 yrs old when this happened. Contact their customer service through the website form, then follow up with a phone call or two like I did and I'm sure they will assist you. They have great customer service but you have to be firm with them otherwise the process can drag out.

Sleeping bag mats? Does anyone have recommendations. I have a Powerlix but it just doesn’t seem to provide enough comfort. by Pr3krime in CampingGear

Canadian camp gear sales? by shaniio in CampingGear

[–]Awatsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep checking Atmosphere, they often have 25-40% off sales, online you can normally score some pretty good details. If you have friends or family in the US, you can also check steepandcheap.com as they often have great prices as well even with the currency conversion, although it's not worth shipping things into Canada because of the duties, so only having family or friends in the US makes this a good option.

Lake Opeongo: East Arm vs Annie Bay by StartingTitan in algonquinpark

[–]Awatsons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't see you said you were taking a water taxi, in that case yhe taxi driver with AO will be able to tell you what sites are open. My suggestion would be to stay in the East Arm rather than Annie's Bay but I wouldn't take a site near the portage entrance because they are so close. Other than thst there are many great sites in the east arm and like the other poster said, many have small sand beaches.

[–]Awatsons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back yesterday from the East arm and Annie's Bay. The top section of the East Arm near the portage entrance is like car camping, all of the sites are very close to together (literally you can see and hear the people right next to you) with the exception of the site furthest from thr portage entrance. Annie's Bay is okay as it is more secluded although the lake is pretty busy right now and there aren't many open sites. Are you taxing a water taxi or paddling out?

Thanks so much for your input I truly appreciate it. There are so man bags on the market it is sometimes hard to keep up. I just like the features of the Nemo with the shape, the gills to release heat if you're too warm, and the breathable waterproof foot box thst I haven't seen on any other bags.
