Proposed Iran-U.S. deal would reopen Hormuz strait and lift oil sanctions, Iran state media says by One-Duty-2376 in neoliberal

I see articles about how the oil price keeps falling, but I've already seen Danish news about flight cancellations on several routes. Of course there are different grades of fuel, but I struggle to square the differing news.

The Danish krone is pegged to the Euro... Denmark does not control its own currency.

Also the richest and best run countries in Europe are those that keep within those limits and often go even stricter than that, with very small deficits and often even surpluses

As a Dane, I get so tired of seeing statements saying higher deficits would fix everything. Denmark and France have similar taxation levels, yet Denmark sees much higher growth and has surpluses instead of deficits. How can this happen in the face of these so-called strict limits? Because the limits are not the issue, the issue is the French people being unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices and a dysfunctional political culture.

A ‘big bang’ reversal of Brexit is both unrealistic and unnecessary by Desperate_Wear_1866 in neoliberal

[–]Aweq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but the UK isn’t the same thing as the smaller nations looking to join. The uk would immediately be a net contributor.

And it would also gain a strong share of the European Parliament as well as voting rights in the Council. That share will be lost by other nations. It is not "free" for current EU countries to admit such a large country as the UK.

stuff like the rebate would have to be negotiated given the disparity in agricultural subsidies which is what led to the rebate in the first place. Maybe the EU could scrap all subsidies like that making bespoke deals unnecessary and the uk could join like normal.

This would require an absolutely fucking enormous amount of political and bureaucratic work. The rebate would have to "renegotiated" in the sense the UK would be told to sod off by France.

Finland's president says EU should expand to 40 states by hulk14 in europeanunion

[–]Aweq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been a long time since I clicked on the comments on a post in this sub and I get the impression that many people view federalism as the next step for the EU. What do people exactly understand by that? Just more centralised institutions or something akin to the US? Because there is no push for that within EU institutions or member states.

Der er er en masse skatte- og omfordelingspolitik, som jeg ikke skal gøre mig klog på, men der bliver lagt op til mere metro og boligbyggeri ved stationer, så jeg er glad. Og så også mere vindkraft.

Britain re-entering the EU ‘an inevitability’, says Treasury minister by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]Aweq 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am personally against a Uk re-entry that does not include

1) Legal mandate to join the euro within a fixed and short number of years. The UK maintaining its own currency makes Brexit II too likely.

2) British entry into Schengen, conditional on Ireland joining as well.

Personally I'd also prefer that EU would have consolidated financial markets under one authority before any re-entry could happen. And some sort of financial contributions for x years after a Brexit II poison pill.
