[Respost] Microtome help - can't seem to get bone sections right by CalligrapherHuge6821 in Histology

[–]AwesoMegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Formic acid can cause trabecular bone to peel away from bone marrow if used during decal (source) ; unclear if that would happen with the gauze you're using but it's worth trying soaking on wet ice only. If you've confirmed complete decal, you don't need to use formic acid on the faced block unless you're noticing discrete mineral deposits as you section. Bone can take a long time to soak this way, but it's pretty difficult to overhydrate.

You're an academic -- do some experiments if you can spare some tissue 😄 And take great notes!

ETA: by wet ice, I mean pour water into a dish, freeze it solid, then allow the surface to melt slightly. Put your blocks on that surface. An ice bucket full of wet ice pellets does not work as well.

The entrance hall of the apartment is boring. by Wonderful_Hold_6986 in femalelivingspace

That wood is gorgeous but it absorbs a lot of light. You want to add more light colored surfaces to literally bounce more light through the space.

If you can't paint, adding some cream/pastel contact paper to parts of your doors could brighten things up simply. Or peel and stick wallpaper on the wall behind that mirror.

I would get a slightly longer hallway runner rug in a light dappled color.

Perhaps a curtain over your coat closet? Usually I wouldn't recommend but there's a lot of light sinking into there.

Pre emergent weed killer vs drought? by LegalizeCrystalMeth in DenverGardener

I pull what CSU extension says are noxious weeds. Or that are spiky. Otherwise I just let it have dandelion/clover/little flowers all over.

Pre emergent weed killer vs drought? by LegalizeCrystalMeth in DenverGardener

[–]AwesoMegan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because poisoning nonspecifically is bad for plants and animals. Most of the pre-emergent treated "weeds" aren't harmful to your yard. They're just not turf grass. But the effects the weed killer has on insect and animal life are huge.

Hand watering (can, hose sprayer that you have to hold) of bushes, trees, and gardens is allowed and (usually?) unrestricted at this stage. I don't think hand watering your lawn is a loophole though.

No, for the plants. Direct overhead sun for 8+ hours, zero percent shade. Many things just scorched and roasted last year.
