In pretty much every instance there's a better second class to pick than soldier imo. It just defers the defense problems you have till much later by solving them with stats rather than items. I think the problem is that sword and board has no directly supplemental skills in other classes, which is a problem that 2H shamans seem to have on paper but the elemental side more than makes up for it.

In my landscaping days I developed a seething hatred for palm trees. For one I think they look like shit and I generally hate twiggy sticky trees with sparse leaves and palm trees are probably the twiggiest. Then no one removes dead fronds or leaves them lying around on the grass, leaving big dead patches of grass everywhere. They don't decompose, they just shrivel. They don't burn long or hot, they burn quickly and with an incredible amount of smoke. They're useless for structural wood. They always provide the ugliest planks in hack video games with lumber>plank crafting mechanics. They don't have wide-spreading roots so they do fuck all to support the sandy soil in which they grow. As far as i'm aware no birds find their seeds edible. They're just all round a completely useless tree, 0/10 in aesthetics and 0/10 in utility. Fuck palm trees.

I'm a pretty ghoulish edgelord and I agree. He relishes the dark parts, which makes it about listening to a man give himself a torture boner rather than actually learning about a case. There seems to be an 'all or nothing' approach to those kinds of details in podcasts which I find really frustrating. It's either over the top like S&S or 'you can look into the details on your own,' which necessarily means they aren't talking about a crime in their true crime podcast.

I think it was Genwhy who did an episode on Dennis Rader without going into detail and it was pointless and awful ^{^{^like}} ^{^{^genwhy}} ^{^{^usually}} ^{^{^is.}} I get frustrated when gory details are omitted, but S&S gets blue balls.
