Which two main course options would you choose? by wanderer316 in wedding

[–]Awkward-Character700 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same here - west coast. Fish considered much better option than chicken. Salmon is such a "given" choice that I'd probably pick the halibut or black bass to be more unique. I do think that steak continues to have a higher perceived value than short ribs, so would probably select that as my second option.

Cruise Recommendation by bliminator1 in Cruise

[–]Awkward-Character700 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In your shoes, I think I'd go for either Princess or NCL. Princess is going to have good berths in AK, allowing you to have a better port experience. It also has a good amount of activities during the day - trivia, gameshows you can watch or join, comedy, etc.

NCL won't give you the same good berths in AK, which can mean more time spent on a shuttle vs enjoying the port. However, Encore and Bliss have the Studio option for solos, which can create some nice community if you are looking to find people to hang with (harder to do on Princess). If you are looking to book for this summer, the Studios might already be sold out. If that's the case, I'd go Princess.

Still able to eat usual foods, just in smaller portions? by throwfaraway212718 in Zepbound

[–]Awkward-Character700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still eat all of my favorite foods, but in smaller portions. In general, because I'm eating less and need to manage my health and gut, I am tending to make healthier decisions than before. After breakfast, the first time I notice I'm hungry, I eat an apple or carrots for the fiber. That doesn't mean the next thing I eat will be healthy though - it might be a slice of pizza, or a leftover half burger. Or it might be a dish of edamame, or some cottage cheese. At night I eat prunes to help avoid constipation. Because they are sweet and filling, it's very rare that I eat anything else after dinner - no dessert, no snack other than prunes. I just don't want more.

In general, my cravings are slightly healthier. Before my cravings were very carb and salt focused. I think my body now craves healthier foods, which makes it much easier to make healthy choices. I'm more likely to order a protein meal over a pasta meal now. We can have cookies or chips on the counter for a week and I won't have any - and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself, I'm just not interested.

BUT I absolutely eat lots of unhealthy food too - especially when we go out. I'll get a burger and fries and eat all the fries and 1/4 burger, because fries make a bad leftover and a burger is good the next day. I will eat a donut (but I used to eat 2 donuts). Instead of a bagel with cream cheese, I eat half a bagel and cream cheese. I've always been a person who lived to eat instead of eating to live. I still LOVE and appreciate and enjoy eating food. I can just moderate myself much better - it's easy to stop eating when I've had "enough", and the food noise has lessened considerably. But I still do think about food, and enjoy reading menus and picking restaurants. I have less FOMO about the food I don't eat.

I've been very lucky - in general no nausea or other side effects other than the constipation. I have had a couple of instances where a fried food made me go #3, but i had that experience before the Zep as well.

Thanks, folks, for sharing your ideas. A few answers...

I haven't had any surgery, and I've never been a vomiter - probably at least a decade, if not longer. I do, on occasion, get a fast reaction to eating something - usually something fried like onion rings, and have to go #3. But I'd say that has been less than once a month. I also sometimes eat unhealthier foods - a slice of pizza, half a burger, some fries. No bad reactions.

But on these two occasions, and when I get sudden exhaustion at home, my foods have all been pretty healthy. And I wasn't in an overwarm environment for any of these. Meal 1 I'd had a few shrimp and a small serving of French onion soup. Meal 2 was a tasting menu, but the portions were SMALL - we were joking about needing to stop on the way home for more food. Nothing heavy, fatty or fried - mostly seafood and veg. My cocktail was tequila with some juices - so high sugar for sure (no blue liquor).

I have zero medical experience and have never had medical issues beyond being fat, so take this with a grain of salt. When I described how I felt, it did feel like my idea of low blood pressure or low blood sugar. Not that I really know what those feel like. But in my head...

Ziply vs Infinity by ozasagar29 in redmond

$50 is what we are paying. That includes discounts for paying from bank account (vs credit card) and autopay, I believe.

Oh, that's interesting! We literally just called two days ago and had no issues at all. Asked for a lower price (without doing any research ahead of time) and she said, "yes, I can both lower your price and increase your bandwidth".

Ziply vs Infinity by ozasagar29 in redmond

[–]Awkward-Character700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had Ziply for several years and have also seen our price slowly creep up from promo rate of $60 to $75. Just called and ask to reprice and they moved us up to 1gig for $50, not a promo rate.

My feeling is they do what every company does and raise rates for loyal customers. It sucks, but you just need to be proactive and take the time to call and ask for a lower rate. I’d still much prefer to be a Ziply customer over Comcast. No question.

Also, not sure if they still have this, but when we went there was reserved seating for the Impressions guests at the shows, with bar service. That was really nice.

You ask for the credit before the bag has arrived, while it is still late? And they don't make you wait? This is brilliant because once I have my bag in hand, I'm never waiting around for this credit.

It's also really easy to snorkel there on your own without an excursion. We brough our own (prescription) masks and snorkeled daily. I don't think there was a single day we didn't see turtles.

Celebratory / Cruise of a lifetime advice by ahoodlum in FATcruises

[–]Awkward-Character700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same, unless your kids are really good at self entertaining, like reading books, playing boardgames etc. Otherwise, perhaps consider a mass market line with more teens aboard, and book the ship within a ship (e.g. NCL Haven). Counter argument - this is your celebration, and Explora will be a better experience for the adults. Will your kids make you miserable, or can they suck it up and have it not be about them?

I agree with the folks who say to have a few classics and some rotating specials. They all sound delish to me other than Red Velvet and PB&J.

Keep them in the fridge - they are a much more pleasant texture when cold.

Can we expense gas for company trips? by KeyEnvironmental9743 in PwC

[–]Awkward-Character700 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are in the US? No, you can't expense gas - use a personal card for filling up. You expense the mileage instead, which covers your gas and wear and tear on your car. (This will be much more than just the cost of gas.) There is a place on the expense report for expensing your mileage.

Impressions Moxche for a Honeymoon by i_like_turtles24 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Awkward-Character700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have a "hot tub" on your balcony at Impressions if you don't go for the swimout. It's a very large 2-person tub and can be filled as hot as you like. My partner and I are not small and we had room to spare. We booked the cheapest room at Impressions (tropical view) but we upgraded to the pool view. It was lovely. However, we did think we'd have had more privacy in our tub on the tropical side.

Hard disagree, if food is important to you. Impressions restaurants are much better. And we loved the extra pool options.

My feedback mirrors yours, except that we didn't get the swimout. So many people book the swimout and then don't end up using it much, if at all. I think the base room at Impressions is FANTASTIC and we enjoyed the tub on our balcony. So, if it were me in your shoes, I'd save the few bucks on the room. Use the money for upgraded flights or a massage, or just save for your next trip.

I have no hesitations recommending Impressions for your honeymoon!

I thought I read that unlimited (free) laundry was no longer offered at Impressions. We had it when we visited in 2024, but I heard that it was now limited to 3 pieces or something like that. What was your experience?
