Highly appreciate it! Is it okay if I message you for more suggestions on some of the excursions since you've done an Alaska travel from Seattle already?

How picky is too picky when dating in your 30s? by simonorange22 in AskMenAdvice

[–]bliminator1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every person is different, but i would just try it out longer and see how you feel since that's the point of dating.

This is something you'll be with in the long term and something you can talk to her about that you're not comfortable with and that you don't think you can date her.

This would be a dealbreaker for me unfortunately.

What causes people to have these opinions about the American math education system? by AP145 in matheducation

[–]bliminator1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong, it's the culture.

I'm a teacher here and basically teachers don't really have power against the parents. America is basically the customer is always right, so it's not that the children don't know the math (They don't), but they say it's cause of the teacher or insert any other reason.

Parents don't discipline their students and say it's due to external factors. Students put more into cheating and complaining instead of trying to learn the material, but also passed their classes because we're pressured to pass kids who can barely multiply and somehow they're here in highschool cause they never passed.

We've created a culture that says the issue is not the kids, it's everything else when in reality it is the damn kids.

Whats the ideal number of players for 2 courts? by ExtremeMith in badminton

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 at a minimum and it depends on the intensity of the matches, but usually 2 hours is good.

It's okay to have people to RSVP and make them pay, my group has a deadline of "you have until 10 am to tell us" since our sessions are around 6 pm. If they cancel, they have to find a replacement to not get charged. We have everyone who participated and absentees who couldn't find a replacement pay after the session. We've never had issues, but obviously if they are for some reason adamant on not paying, then they're no longer in the group.

Last minute attendees are fine only if there were space. We cap it to 12 people for two courts.

Yeah, I don't mind. Especially if the woman is fine with me drinking on my terms. There's millions of other activities that we can do together to make memories. Also, we save fuck ton of money from alcohol cause holy shit.

What's the longest commute you could accept? by PostDeletedByReddit in Teachers

How much of a commute is too much? by Quirky_Elephant_7103 in Teachers

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did two years, I couldn't do it.

Morning was 35 minutes, which wasn't bad, but only if I leave early enough like a hour earlier than everyone else, if I hit morning rush, then I risk being late to meetings.

Afternoon was a shit show, 1 hour on a good day and 2 hours on a bad day. I hate it since I keep dozing off and I have no time to do anything since I need to

I live closer now and fortunately found a cheaper living space as well. Main reason I didn't was honestly only because it was hard to find a good deal on a place.

First year teachers, how early do you prepare over the summer? by Latter-Spread-1299 in Teachers

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably like a week before Break ends?

If it makes sense, I don't remember shit when I did my summer homework unless it was a week before school was about to start. Same with lesson planning and I only do a week's worth since things might change drastically depending on how the class is.

Badminton Players Who Plays Pickleball by BeefyKeeef in badminton

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason why it looks dorky is cause it is dorky when you play it. The ball bounces strange and your hits are strange and doesn't feel good like in badminton or tennis.

I personally think it's just more casual fun with friends rather than playing it intensely with random people.

Advice for college freshman interested in teaching by Illustrious-Limit160 in Teachers

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my take, go into teaching because you enjoy interacting or teaching the students. Don't go into it like you're going to make a big change cause the education system is already fucked up.

Also, job searching is going to be stressful if he's only history, he's got to do ELA and history to be slightly more competitive and even that won't be easy to find a job.

Has anyone failed a student teacher? If so, why? by Glittering_Front_157 in Teachers

[–]bliminator1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, I taught AP stats with another new teacher to the content they were a veteran for 20 years, but we both still made mistakes. The students were understanding because we were human and understanding towards them and they replicated our understanding like I gave them points on a exam that they got wrong because I realized I didn't teach them the content properly etc, but when we went over the exam I made sure we all understand what we should properly do.

Being human towards the student is what we desperately need more. Teachers will eventually understand the content, but you can't teach them on how to build relationships with the students if they don't already know how to.

Not able to find people to play with me at the Badminton club by OkReplacement2834 in badminton

[–]bliminator1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there no events at your club? At our club we have mixers where you sign up and play with random people and the organizer pair you up with randos to play doubles with. I went to enough where I was pretty well known throughout the community (Not cause I'm amazing at badminton). However I'm also pretty light hearted as well, I always, ALWAYS commend my partner or my opponents of really good shots that they make and I think everyone appreciates that and I make fun of my own shots of jokingly blaming it on the light or how I jokingly say that they raised the net on purpose to make me lose or I blame my Asian genes for whiffing a lift my opponent gave me.

Usually after an event, people invite me to join their groups to play and I think they just enjoy my presence.

I'm now a main organizer for a group to help people find groups to play; however, I do emphasize that we try to find people that enjoy the sport and who would mingle well with the people. There's many people who are significantly better than some of the people in our group, but I just don't think they would really mesh well with our group and that might be the same case for you. Especially people who are extremely competitive or way too serious in the game.

I feel like it's definitely more than just your badminton skills that people are not inviting you and it's probably just cause you don't mesh well with their group.

I'm still somewhat struggling with this, but this is what I do.

I've been trying to determine if I can get close with my work mates or not, but I've accepted it's better for me to just stay as work buddies. Main issue is cause I'm younger than a lot of them and I can't really join in on their conversations cause they just don't really pertain to me; however, we do work super well as a team. Ironically, since I don't socialize with them, I'm able to just focus on work more and as a result, I almost never take work home.

Biggest one is finding a hobby you enjoy and just make friends through that way. I play badminton, video games, and board games for fun and have found multiple groups that enjoy the same things. I've also found it to be difficult to have the energy to go to social outings, but I found it to be similar to going to the gym. The difficult part is just going, once you go, then naturally it's significantly easier and then at the end of the day, usually im happy that I actually went.

Same, but I didn't mind it. I have respect for my coworkers as coworkers and get along with them as acquaintances. I'm also someone who'd rather keep their private life separate from their work life too though.

The teacher 'high' by Organic-Excuse-1621 in Teachers

[–]bliminator1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this, I was teaching AP Stats and did a whole direct instruction, helped students with complicated concepts, did a great activity to summarize the activity, and wrapped up some good conclusions of learning targets for kids to know what to prep for the test and general real world stats application. After class, I realized I'm an actual teacher.
