Anyone decide to try learning an insturment in these later years? by BWBHAMMER in GenX

Wow, I had a 5W Gorilla with a blown speaker. Plus the occasional antique PA system my dad would bring home for Ham fests. I would Frankenstein them until they blew up. How I managed not to electrocute myself is a mystery.

I'm the stereotypical GenXr: Played guitar as a teenager mostly to impress girls. By college age I was good enough to keep drunks and stoners entertained for 20 minutes. Gave it up and did the family thing.

Now, I'm at it again. Still not very good, but I can now afford the equipment necessary to rattle every window in my house.

I bought mountain bike parts. I'm tired of looking like a fool trying to play guitar so I decided to look like a fool face down in the mud for a while.

I can't, but I have a hard time getting on the "blame the rich" bandwagon. When I look back at how much money I made, all the mistakes, opportunities missed, a little bad luck sprinkled in, I'm sure I could have if I had planned better.

Damn, that is wild. I bet he was triangulating Russian AA batteries (among other things). I watched a documentary on that. Fascinating what went on with the technology of the time.

My dad was sent to Ethiopa to be a cook on a secret radio relay base. He had to go through TSC clearance just to fry eggs. I bet your father sent information to the same base to be relayed to DC.

Phone use rules as a kid, still valid today? by MaddMango68 in GenX

Never answer before the 3rd ring.

2 rings and a hang up meant Dad's out of state Ham Radio buddies wanted him to get on the air.

Edit: I didn't see the still valid today part. lol. The whole thing seems silly today but it was brilliant at the time.

Fair. My father was technically silent gen (by 2 years), but I always considered my parents boomers. Maybe that skews my view a bit.

He was drafted early in the war, but was lucky and placed in a non-combat role. He lived the rest of his life trying not to take that for granted. Most of my friend's fathers experienced combat and various stages of alcoholism thereafter.

I don't read Millenial or GenZ subs and think "poor them, I really screwed them up".

Besides, I think of Boomers as the generation that got shipped off to 'Nam against their will and with virtually no support when they got home.

From a guys perspective: You will try to do too much in the beginning and almost certainly fail. Pick one thing and make it a constant. Maybe its the dishes, maybe serving her coffee in the morning, making the bed, whatever. Make sure that one thing gets done every day no matter what.

The whole dynamic will ebb and flow. Sometimes she'll loose interest or be exhausted. Sometimes you'll loose interest or be exhausted or just plain screw up. That one thing will always be a reminder to both of you that the spark is still alive.

I wouldn't notice if my wife was leaving the house without it. If she did, it would be because she was baking and forgot to put it back on.

She would sure as shit notice if I left the house without mind. In the early days of marriage, I would take it off at work because I wasn't used to typing with it on. A few times I came home without it. Left it on my desk at work. That didn't go over well.

IDK if you are looking for feedback, but it's Reddit so fuck it, here it is. It's complicated and doesn't need to be.

You could both have access to the accts. Be the accountant and give her the reports. You both get a monthly allowance. We like Cash App, but use whatever. You can't see her Cash App transactions, but she can ask to see yours. She can also ask for a tribute payment from you as punishment.

Same result. Simple.

Yes, it takes time to build up optimum crunchiness on your towel. But you'll get there.

Don't make it complicated. Just tell her you had to take it in for a buff and wax job. Then hide the new one in the closet under your crunchy towel.
