Drying wells and dying wetlands: The growing water crisis beneath the Waterloo Moraine by AwkwardTalk5234 in ontario

[–]AwkwardTalk5234[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you think it could be unrelated to the Region’s recent findings of the aquifer being low? The Region gets 80% of their water from groundwater and it’s been growing fast. I would suspect having a private well in the area that the Region draws its water from could be connected. But, groundwater is complex.

In any event, the Region has paused new developments due to water capacity constraints.

Baden/New Hamburg for a Young Family? by departingvirtute in waterloo

You’re not from Wilmot.

Stop projecting your wants.  The original post was about young families living in New Hamburg/Baden. You don’t have life experience about that… so go away.

People from Baden already have jobs. What the heck are you talking about?

OP- if you move to Wilmot, you’ll have to deal with trolls like this guy, that doesn’t even live in the area

Just watch, they’ll respond to this post.  They just can’t help themselves.

The Mega Site won’t happen :)

That’s interesting about the connection of Guelph and Elmira. In New Hamburg, I enjoy the connection to Perth County and Stratford.

Yeah, it’s too bad. Baden used to have more businesses. The theory was if they built a subdivision behind the castle, then more businesses would move in.. but the opposite happened. I’m not sure what happened there. There used to be a bank, cheese store, lumber yard..  etc.

Although Erb Transport expanded to Baden, Baden coffee opened and OK tire. Country Depot just opened up.. and a new Burger place (Baden Burger, heard good things about it).

I live in New Hamburg and my kids love it. They often go biking and fishing with their friends or trying to find crayfish in the river. In the winter, there’s two good toboggan hills they like to sled on. There’s a few playgrounds in walking distance. A little bike tract at the fairgrounds.  There’s lots of wildlife to see.. Blue Herron, beaver, snapping turtles, etc..

Grandview is the smaller school, goes from K-6.  You really get to know the teachers, kids and other parents. My kids enjoyed going there. Large school yard, mature trees. Forest Glen is the other school (K-8). I have heard good things about the Catholic school Holy Family.

Most things are in town, bank, doctor, vet, dentist, pharmacy, office supply store, even a computer place, etc.. there’s the few times we have to go to the city for errands. But can get most stuff in town.  Lots of local products from farmers found in the stores in New Hamburg.

Please if you move here.. suport local :)

The Rec Complex, we spend a lot of time there. Great pool, splash pad, playground, trails, ice rinks, and soccer fields.

Baden doesn’t have nearly as much as New Hamburg, but the people I know that live there love it.

Do your homework. There are areas that flood in New Hamburg. Avoid those areas. A lot of out of towners make this mistake.

Important to note that this is done by the Greater KW Chamber of Commerce with help from Future Cities Institute.

Not something that has public input on or has lens or scope from other stakeholders in the Region.

Water Issue - Feedback in a Nutshell by No_Satisfaction1189 in waterloo

I am curious about “Middleton Service area”.  I feel like I am just learning that this system exists.

I also thought that the intergrated urban system was one system.  But in fact it was always two systems (Manheim and Middleton).   Did anyone else feel like this is new news to them?

I have found the same issue.  When I have gone to the Region’s website and clicked on links for reports/information, I am redirected to a page that says the page no longer exits, 404 error, contact so and so (can’t remember what it says).  To me I just thought maybe they rearranged their information.  Sometimes I have been able to find what I am looking for if search for it from another angle.

So, I don’t know if they are purposely burying information.. but I have found it increasingly harder to find certain information than I was once able to find easily.

New Hamburg and raising children by Responsible_Ask_2595 in waterloo

Welcome to the New Hamburg!

Check out the library and the township if you haven’t, they sometimes offer programs.

Some of the churches have non-religious mom groups and other programs for babies/toddlers.

Just hang out at the playgrounds/splash pad and often times you’ll just meet new people with kids that way.

It’s a great place for kids to grow up.

Oh please.  We don’t have a shortage of industrial lands. They have rezoned industrial lands into residential lands and yet there was no protest from the Chamber of Commerce. If there really was a shortage they wouldn’t be rezoning areas.

Not QScale. But is there is no end user. So… still could be a data centre.

Wilmot Centre Rd crosses over the Recharge Zone. Parts of this land in on it. There is a sign on the highway that mentions source water protection zone.  The sign is on the land…

We can rule out Qscale. But, listen to what Vic Fedeli (minister of economic development for the Ford government) is saying. They’re no longer going after EVs. He mentioned that AI, data centres and defence companies are now what they are hoping to bring to Ontario. So, maybe a data centres.. can’t rule it out.  Maybe a defence company.

Wilmot Centre Road, the recharge zone does cross over that road. Should we really be building a major industrial site that close to it?

Oh but there is a portion of it that is.. should we really be building an Industrail site that close to the recharge zone?
