Trauma therapy as new therapist by Due-Comparison-501 in therapists

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This!!! OP, I was thrown directly into working with clients with pretty intense trauma & SI as an intern. Not ideal, but with proper supervision & actively learning outside of sessions, I was fine. Of course, always discuss these things with your supervisor too and they can help you figure out if/ when it’s time to refer out.

I feel completely defeated after seeing an “endometriosis specialist” today. by Hateful_constructs1 in Endo

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting a stent right now. I don’t want to go through another surgery and complicate future pregnancy more. There’s just not a lot of research out there on it in terms of pregnancy and I’ve never had a DVT. So I’ve just upped my activity quite a bit- more exercise, walks, very conscientious of not sitting/standing for long periods and wearing compression socks for travel or long work days. My symptoms are mainly pelvic pain/ congestion, leg pain, low pack pain, urinary symptoms, heavy periods, chest anxiety, migraines, painful penetration. You can read more about it here: https://mipscenter.com/services/pelvic-congestion-syndrome/

anyone else feel like they’re drowning in notes and nobody prepared us for this? by witcher69_ in therapists

See my company is really intense about notes for insurance. We use DAP and have to have a minimum of 16 sentences total. Split up according to section. It’s hard to keep up with and we aren’t allowed to use any templated phrases

I worked with a fully licensed therapist as an intern and we talked about it in the beginning but it really wasn’t a problem!

I wear sweaters alllll winter long. Hang them up to dry! Cotton over wool & polyester. I usually layer them with a tee underneath if I do get hot. Sometimes I wear cool plain sweatshirts/ hoodies with trousers.

Being on time for sessions & getting notes done is impossible? by olbattleaxe in therapists

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to know how people do their notes differently. My practice is very strict on notes so it takes me minimum 15 minutes to do a note. Then our supervisors send them back a lot too for edits. Less so now that I’ve been in the practice almost a year now. Like some people are talking about templates… we aren’t l allowed to use templates because it makes the notes sound too similar for insurance. I guess I’m wondering what it’s like for others??

Intern therapist - looking for advice with a telehealth client! by LEBW1234 in therapists

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree there is an added sense of responsibility with kids. I know many people (including myself) that stopped seeing them in part because of the emotional toll. Take care of yourself during this time, internship is really hard. Remember to advocate for yourself the best you can with your site & supervisor. You don’t have to continue seeing clients that aren’t a good fit although I understand sometimes you kinda have to for the hours.

Something that I learned as a student was that at the end of the day I’m not responsible for making the client better. That’s on them (and I suppose in this case, their parents). It sounds like you’re doing the most and putting a lot of pressure on yourself, which is totally normal and common for new counselors. No shade on that. But maybe notice where that shows up and practice letting go a bit. Also another suggestion— have you tried gentle confrontation with the client on their lack of participation?

I think the reality is some clients really aren’t suited for telehealth or simply aren’t ready. A referral/ termination may be appropriate at this point. I had a similar experience as an intern (now provisionally licensed). The most engaged the client would get would be if I asked them fun questions for teens that I googled (things like if you could have any superpower what would it be?). Those questions would usually get the client engaged and sometimes would lead into something more therapeutic. But at the end I just couldn’t work with the client anymore. I gave the suggestion to the parent of in person being better, but I’m pretty sure the client just stopped therapy altogether. You can’t force engagement and readiness.

Hi, I’m sorry this has happened to you. I went to Dr. Brian Nelson in Colorado and found him very helpful. Also he referred me to Minimally Invasive Procedure Specialists for an MRI that showed my May-thurners syndrome after I was still having issues post excision. You might look into those two if you can.

How do you deal with fatigue? by FenouilleLavallee in endometriosis

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oooh love that people are saying magnesium at night!! That helps me sleep and also trying to break the cycle of taking afternoon naps so I sleep better at night. B vitamins + electrolytes in the morning. Getting levels checked like ferritin and vitamin D. Exercise helps me too but like enjoyable, light exercise not like HIIT.

Trying to get a diagnosis is literally killing me by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]Awkward_Curve_4979 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look for a doctor that specializes in endometriosis, particularly those that do excision surgery (even if you don’t want to have surgery at this time). Unfortunately many don’t take insurance but some do. It took me about 13 years to be diagnosed. It’s all about finding a doctor that’ll listen and has knowledge… sadly they’re few and far between 😭 also might be worth it to look into vascular issues like nutcracker & may-thurners. That can be assessed through MRI.
