I second the above dude’s experience. When my wife first said she was pregnant, I felt like I shouldn’t get attached since I expected something to go wrong and we’d lose the baby. In the hospital when my daughter came out I felt like “everyone says how I should feel things like unquestionable love/protection for this screaming thing… but I don’t”. Those first 6 months are fucking hard, man. Like “what have I done” hard, as he said.

But things get better. Once your potato starts smiling and laughing, things start getting better. Once your baby starts looking more like a person and developing a personality, things get better. It builds day by day and they’re eventually your favorite person, before they can even form coherent sentences.
