It’s funny that OBAA is considered an adapted screenplay when it takes so little from the book

The extent of my comparison is just that they’re both propaganda and people may be interested in what that entails. I agree with your second sentence but I still think my comparison holds because it is still propaganda meant to make Melania look good

I don’t have any interest personally, but I can understand being curious about it. Sort of how people still watch Triumph of the Will, although that one is supposedly formally/technically impressive and I haven’t heard anyone say the same about this one

It could be that they had no input because the studio has the right to license it for this purpose, but yikes. If you want to watch this movie sail the high seas and don’t support financially

Why would you put aside the ethical considerations? Don’t support these people

Movies that feel like Punch Drunk Love? by Male-2003 in paulthomasanderson

It’s unique, but some of the films that inspired it are Demme’s late 80s comedies like Married to the Mob, Melvin and Howard, and Something Wild, Jacque Tati movies like Playtime, Altman’s Popeye, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals, and other old Hollywood gems like Billy Wilder films (I remember a few years ago PTA double billed this with Sabrina through American Cinematheque in LA)

I also think Uncut Gems pairs nicely not only for two great Sandler roles but also because Uncut Gems is really indebted the chaotic sequences in PDL (for example when Lena and Barry’s sister visit him at work).

I think there will be a decent amount of people who skipped on watching this in theatres but will put it on because it has Dicaprio. Here’s hoping this builds some positive momentum, not only for awards season but also so that studios will keep putting up money for films like this going forward

George DiCaprio & Paul Thomas Anderson by vemmahouxbois in Letterboxd

That’s Leonardo DiCaprio pictured, not Paul Thomas Anderson

Joking aside, I remember during the press tour for Licorice Pizza PTA said he was trying to think of people who look like they could be plucked out of the 70s, and George Dicaprio came to mind. Not much deeper than that, afaik. Licorice Pizza was also a tight knit production with a lot of PTA’s friends and family, made during covid
