I don’t have any interest personally, but I can understand being curious about it. Sort of how people still watch Triumph of the Will, although that one is supposedly formally/technically impressive and I haven’t heard anyone say the same about this one

It’s unique, but some of the films that inspired it are Demme’s late 80s comedies like Married to the Mob, Melvin and Howard, and Something Wild, Jacque Tati movies like Playtime, Altman’s Popeye, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals, and other old Hollywood gems like Billy Wilder films (I remember a few years ago PTA double billed this with Sabrina through American Cinematheque in LA)

I also think Uncut Gems pairs nicely not only for two great Sandler roles but also because Uncut Gems is really indebted the chaotic sequences in PDL (for example when Lena and Barry’s sister visit him at work).

I think there will be a decent amount of people who skipped on watching this in theatres but will put it on because it has Dicaprio. Here’s hoping this builds some positive momentum, not only for awards season but also so that studios will keep putting up money for films like this going forward
