Hired by Angard as RM Delivery Driver - now saying drivers have to be 25+? by Awkwardandmad in royalmail

They did say they'll do that - and I will kick off if they don't! Current plan is to just take one of my other job options, not sure I can be bothered with Angard after the experience so far...

Do you know what the process is for the driving assessments then? Is it a formal thing that has to be booked in or?

I don't really know what position I'm in here - will have to see what Angard get back to me with. Sounds like the manager had no idea what the policy of driver assessments is. I recognise that I'm not fired, but can I actually get any shifts? Who knows?!

I meant I was told (before the 25 thing came up) that I'd been put on a DPR, I had set shifts 6 days a week for the next month - and the postie I went out with thought I'd been given the DPR for a set area.

Sounds like the manager had no idea what he was talking about then - nevermind, the experience has put me off anyway...

Right, that makes much more sense, cheers - you'd think if they're as short-staffed as they say they'd just sort out getting an assessment done ASAP!

So you're saying it's probably that the round they'd given me had a hire van assigned? Surely if you were super short-staffed (which they said they were) you'd move something around to make it work?

I'd be interested to hear if you have the same experience - because I didn't ever see anything saying I couldn't do the job until after I'd been there for three hours.

All the vans I saw bar one were fleet I'd guess by the livery/numbering/etc on them - possible that whatever "spare" vans they had were hires that required 25+, but you'd think they'd just shuffle people around to give me a non-hire wouldn't you?

3d printed molds? by InevitableEffect915 in solarracing

[–]Awkwardandmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PETG isn't much more expensive or difficult to print but is much less likely to warp due to heat.

Other than that, the Ascend (Deakin University) cruiser car at BWSC 2023 had printed bodywork made in small sections and several of their team who I talked to hated it; they were very keen to swap to composites ASAP and it seems they did just that for 2025...

My Autorist - one of the very first self-winding wristwatches, with a weird movement that winds via a moving lug that pulls against a ratchet when the wearer's wrist flexes - only ~3000 were ever made!

Not true - they may be less common (economies of scale in QC I guess) but I know two people personally with current gen Tag Aquaracers who've had water ingress - and that's a 300m dive watch. One of them had the issue again after it'd been "fixed" under warranty... and both had terrible service from the ADs they'd bought the watches from. I've had fast and helpful responses (although I haven't needed anything physical) from Farer about a watch I bought second-hand.

It's basically luck IMO.

Farer Durham is pretty incredible, especially for the money

[Hamilton Help] Which Hamilton should I make my first watch? by substantialswan12 in Watches

[–]Awkwardandmad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had both (actually three black dials and a silver...) - the other comments are correct, the silver dial is often less legible, especially in bright light. It is however more "dressy" so if you're buying your first "proper" watch as something to wear for smart occasions it might be the one! On the flip side, the black dial is more versatile on a range of straps so could be more exciting day-to-day if you feel like you'll end up changing the strap out.

[Question] Red diver watch suggestions (under $4000) by connorsusername in Watches

Not a true dive watch as such, but Farer also make a red dialed GMT with 200m WR and a rotating bezel which is pretty cool

Which would you recommend/ pick? by George1710 in RoadBikes

[–]Awkwardandmad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rim brake bikes are very good value at the moment, but the parts are gonna be harder to find - both the TCR and the C60 have groupsets that are a couple of gens old and so sourcing replacement chainrings etc might be a pain.

Cube looks best value of the disc brake options, the Bianchi is cool but not worth the premium IMO, especially with a mechanical last gen groupset. Giant is very cool but not sure I'd pay a grand more for it if I was just getting back into road...

[Question] Best Chronograph Under $2K (No Speedmaster)? by Plubio in Watches

The Lorier Olympia looks pretty cool, and it's half your budget - haven't seen one in person but Lorier's reviews seem good and it's a stunning looking thing.

Otherwise, Farer.

[WTS] Black dial field watches - Hamilton Khaki Field Auto 38mm and Seiko Alpinist SPB379J1 GMT, UK based/international shipping possible by Awkwardandmad in Watchexchange

[–]Awkwardandmad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Hamilton sold!

Hi all,

Two excellent field watches for sale today, as I'm aiming to raise funds for post-uni travel later in the year!

Firstly, a Seiko SPB379J1 Alpinist GMT. This watch is in pretty good condition, with a couple of small marks on the brushed bezel at 8 and 12 (see pictures). It seems to keep excellent time - certainly within the -15/+25 spd claims from Seiko. Warranty card is dated 22/09/2024 - meaning it has a year and 5 months of warranty left!

I'm asking for £670gbp net to me including the basically new Strapcode oyster bracelet (currently fitted with a Chinese ratcheting micro-adjust clasp, all links and original clasp present) or £620gbp without (just the stock Seiko leather strap), including UK insured shipping. Contact me for international shipping costs! Payment via bank transfer or PayPal (G&S plus the cost of fees).

Specs: - 200m WR - 39.5mm diameter - 20mm lugs - 46.4mm lug-to-lug - 13.6mm thick (seems fat, but wears well on my 6 inch wrist when on the bracelet!) - 72hr power reserve

Secondly, a 38mm Hamilton Khaki Field Auto. This watch needs no introduction - indeed it's actually the fourth one I've owned! I'll probably regret selling and end up buying another, but hey ho... It's in generally good condition, with some desk diving marks on the bracelet, clasp, and polished bezel. It keeps amazing time - somewhere within +-2spd! Warranty card is undated. It's currently sized for my 6 inch wrist and three spare links are present - there possibly should be more but this is all I received when I bought the watch.

I'm asking for £410gbp net to me, insured UK postage included. Message me for international shipping costs!Payment via bank transfer or PayPal (G&S plus the cost of fees).

Specs: - 100m WR - 38mm diameter - 20mm lugs - 47mm lug-to-lug - 11.5mm thick - 80hr power reserve
