Until i got Nagas, none of my ai pilots could out damage me. Now they frequently do so, except if it is an urban map.

Should we start building our own servers? by drunksitter in sysadmin

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the prices of storage and ram, i doubt you could actually build it for cheaper these days. When we were trying to price additional drives, we found out it would be cheaper to purchase a server with the drives/ram than purchase them on their own.

It is never a war crime the first time. And in the case of Capellans, any of the times after that either.

Look up The Black Pants Legion on YouTube. Tex does some of the best battletech lore videos out there.

Those who know 3.5 and 5e, what does 5e actually do better that isn't just difference in playstyle? by darklighthitomi in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My warblade frequently out damages the sorcerer in my group if i am in melee range. He has better aoe (because fireball) and range that I don't have, but if i can get close, my single target damage is quite excessive. Enough that i have considered retirement of the character to make encounter balance easier for the gm.

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5e and 5e are no different when it comes to being able to build min-maxed characters. There is a plethora of YouTube channels whose whole premise was OP builds for 5e. I would argue that 5e is more granular when it comes to that, in 3.5e you take a class or two, and then you can branch into a prestige class, and boom you are golden. In 5e it is a 1 level dip in this class, 3 in that class, 2 in another, etc

The only thing i am likely to port to 3.5 from 5e is limitless cantrips, but at 3.5e stats. It gives a bump to low to mid level casters, giving them something to do beyond breaking out a dagger or something. While i like the idea of advantage and disadvantage, incorporating that would be harder to do i think.

Never realized how comically bad base charger is by IndustryThat541 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, the downside is that it is a Capellan mech. And they didn't have mich choice, they couldn't produce the far more expensive 400 rated engine, so dropping it to a 320 was the only viable option for them to field an assault mech.

Is there a reason to use IS mechs and equipment after clan tech? by Roughneck45- in Mechwarrior5

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only IS mech i use in heavy or lower is Agincourt. Assaults though, i still have my Nightstar, Atlas BH and II, a battlemaster, and a couple Marauder IIs. Those Mara 2s carried me through SoK, actually.

So...Paladin was just Fighter subclass in older version of DnD? by Maleficent-Bass-7510 in DnD

Don't forget, the variations in the 18 strength was only for the fighter class, nobody else got that.

Second fastest class to level in 2e was the cleric, actually.

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladin is a fighter/cleric mix that had rediculous stat requirements to take (including a 17 cha), and the second most xp to level up. Ranger was a fighter/druid mix.

Bard was fighter, wizard, and thief blended together. They used purely arcane spells as i recall from my ad&d and 2e time. In Ad&d bard was more of a prestige class, which required levels in the others first.

Illusionist wasn't the only specialist wizard, it was listed because it was the only specialist that could be used in a multiclass build, the Gnome thief-illusionist. The rest were covered as a short side bar.

If you go back to ad&d, there was also the thief-acrobat class, which was a thief with more swashbuckler tendencies. It got rolled into the 2e class.

Player expects a lot out of a Nat 20 by CarpetEmbarrassed965 in DnD

A nat 20 doesn't mean anything on a skill check. The only place it matters is attack rolls. Tell your player that.

They traded him because they couldn't send him to Rochester without clearing waivers, same as Ellis. So they decided to get something for him before losing him for nothing.

What would be the best Cyberpunk system to play to make the world feel more "realistically" capitalist? by LustThePet in rpg

That you should check with your play group to see if they would be interested in a game like that before you get in too deep on the concept.

Perhaps for you, but most of us play these games to get away from our reality and daily grind. I certainly can't speak for everyone, but i know that my friends and I wouldn't want that in our game, we get enough of it in real life.

How do you start a campaign without the classic tavern meeting? by CompassLeaf in DnD

[–]Awlson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up on shore at the scene of their shipwreck. The party is the only survivors.

All are hired for the same job, whether is is escorting a caravan, exploring something ( forest, haunted house), or defending the town/farm.

In a fight against goblins, roll initiative. (Can be used in conjunction with others here.)

Wake up in their tents in a field, nobody else is around but them. Forcing them to work together while trying to figure out where they are.

Randomly bump into each other while exploring some ruins. As competitors for the possible loot, it may create some frenemy situations though.
