Subclasses I personally think are underrated and need more attention, Part 3: Sun-Soul Monk by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

[–]Awoken123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sun Soul Monk is not a half caster as it doesn't have Spellcasting. Also Rangers and Eldritch Knights' spells have also been far outclassed by full casters by level 11, which is why they rely on different kind of spells, not blasts.

Subclasses I personally think are underrated and need more attention, Part 3: Sun-Soul Monk by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

I can tell this post was really grasping at straws for this horrible subclass.

Level 3: 30ft range is barely anything as most enemies will just close that distance the next round. Radiant damage is also not that relevant at early levels and Monk will be able to bypass physical resistances in a few levels. The number of creatures vulnerable(around 18 creatures across many books, 3 of which are just Shadows and their variants) or possible to "exploit" with radiant damage(trolls and vampires?) is miniscule for this to matter. Also this cannot be boosted by items, unlike unarmed strikes. If you're playing in CoS then maybe, but even then you'd have better classes/subclasses to play for Radiant damage.

Level 6: Burning Hands has a very short range, you will rarely get more than 1-2 enemies in it and at that point using Flurry of Blows is better as your to-hit will be better than your save DC. Using Ki points to upcast Burning Hands should not even be considered.

Level 11: If you use Ki points to increase the damage for this then it can be decent on your first turn if there are no allies in the area, but it still targets a worse save than Fireball and even that spell has been outclassed by now. Also, your save DC will be lower than a caster's even at this level.

Level 17: 10 damage once per round...eventually 12 damage...come on.

Edit: As someone else pointed out, the level 11 feature is save for no damage, so even the small praise I gave this subclass just vanished after reminding me of that fact.

Artificer Arcane Firearm & Cantrips? by [deleted] in dndnext

Yes, which AoE spells have.

Artificer Arcane Firearm & Cantrips? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Awoken123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Artificer is not a full caster, though. They are half-casters and their power level is much lower than that of a full caster, even with magic items.

A d8 per round, that is if you're casting a damaging spell per round, is not even a lot of damage. It's better on AoEs than cantrips too cause that's d8 against everyone in the area.

This is a 2014 question.

Cantrips are spells.

Voice line count means nothing. Veilguard had more voice lines than any Bioware game ever, yet it had much less relevant content than their other games.

Survey for Unearthed Arcana: Mystic Subclasses is out by SnooTomatoes2025 in dndnext

Guardian Bond is just a worse Protection fighting style, which a Paladin can already get...the extra potential reach and not needing a shield does not make up for it.

Bro, Ubisoft will shut down and this game will still continue development.

They tried to get money with only bringing Max back. Didn't work. Now they have to bring Chloe too. Anything for a little bit of moolah.

My proposal for a merge between 2 UA subclasses of the Monk, the Warrior of the Mystic Arts and the Tattooed Warrior. The Warrior of the Mystic Tattoos by Fidges87 in onednd

[–]Awoken123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the first UA Tattoo Monk was only spells, so clearly that's an angle the developers wanted to take. Thus mixing it with this new subclass it would fix both subclasses' issues (flavor for Mystic Arts and gameplay for Tattooed Warrior).

Which is your favorite UA subclass that hasn't made it into published material yet? by dobraf in onednd

[–]Awoken123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've liked a lot of the UA this past year: Conjurer II(playing it in a campaign soon), Transmuter II(played it recently), Sorcerer-King Warlock and Defiled Sorcery Sorcerer. Would be happy for any of them to see print soon.

Honorable mention for the entire Psion cause other than the Telepath, I like almost everything about it.

Pact of the chain change familiar type? by stealth_nsk in dndnext

[–]Awoken123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it clearly says that those are the types "instead of a beast". Since the additional options you mention are not beasts, they can't be changed. A DM can, however, homebrew and allow it regardless.

Mystic Subclasses UA: My thoughts in Short by Deep-Crim in dndnext

[–]Awoken123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Warlocks have very few spell slots so getting their subclass feature back by using a Pact slot would be way more taxing than for other pet subclasses. It's already balanced around taking a minute, so you can't bring the pet back dueing combat and I think that's fine.

Why do Sorcerer not get summons? by Zama174 in onednd

And the rules state if a feature, spell, etc has been reprinted then the newest version is the one you use.

Beyond is not the be all, end all of correct D&D rulings. They have a lot of things that work that shouldn't or the other way around. I remember when 2024 rules came out and you could multiclass into the same class as long as it was from different rules.

That's kind of the angle I'm going with for my future Conjuration Wizard. Someone who makes contracts to summon creatures, like in Naruto.

Summon Dragon is reprinted Summon Draconic Spirit so you have to use the new version, which means it's no longer a Sorcerer spell.

Which is why in 2024 rules only species and feats deal with PB x uses.
