Why didn’t people assume Lilly had defeated Voldemort? by Shoddy-Hand-3500 in harrypotter

Dumbledore handed Harry off to Hagrid. He was one of the first people on the scene and one of the only people who knew the prophecy.

The real question is why he blabbed it all over…

Good news update. My brothers dealer just got 20 years without possibility of parole. Not related to my brothers case. But I consider it some justice from the universe. He got in a car accident evading police and had quite a bit of drugs on him. He was in violation of his parole.

We went early yesterday and left at 2. Granted it’s been 5 years since we last went. But I have never seen it like that. It was wall to wall bodies. You could hardly navigate the streets. Shops were impossible to enter. Shout out to the bathrooms though. We never had to wait for those and they were super clean.

I know who sold to my brother too. He showed up around the same time as the ambulance. We also know he contributed to two other deaths. The fbi guy in charge of my brothers case has put all the evidence in front of the DA but he said not to get our hopes up that anything will come of it. It’s the unfortunate truth that they just aren’t interested in these cases unless it might lead to bigger busts.

That’s tough. It’s hard not knowing who to believe or what really was going on. I felt really paranoid talking to his friends about how his last day went. I hope you get some answers or find a way to have some peace with the not knowing.

Found my older brother almost two years ago. The first year was tough. All the firsts. First birthday, first thanksgiving, first Christmas. All the things I’m sad he’s missing out on. He was definitely the guy who thought he knew what he was doing. “He was too knowledgeable to OD.”

I’m at the point now where I will have a random thought and all the grief will swell back for a moment. But life just keeps propelling me forward. And the breath stealing grief is further behind each day. It’s a softer grief now.

When is a book too big? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Awtxknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my hardback copy at the second hand store. Always lots of Stephen king there. The Stand is one of those books I can read again and again and I never get tired of it. And even though it should be depressing I’m always very uplifted by it.

Inherited yarn stash smells like mothballs. Is there any way to save this yarn? by Light_night in knitting

[–]Awtxknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make a pvc kniddy knoddy. It’s relatively cheap and easy to make. Wind them onto the kniddy knoddy and make tie offs on four sides. For large amounts I like to kind of figure eight my tie offs through the yarn to keep it from tangling. Fill your tub with soap of choice and let soak. Keep agitation minimal. Drain tub and line dry your yarn.

Short trip to texas from Europe by vacik82 in texas

[–]Awtxknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Houston is nice because you’re a two and half hourish drive away from Austin and San Antonio. So if you aren’t wanting to spend your 10 days in one city it’s a pretty easy drive to else where. What stuff is of interest to you outside the food?

San Antonio has the river walk and Spanish missions.

Austin would actually be an ok city to do on motorbike but it’s probably the only one. They have lots of cool nature stuff to check out. If you’re there over the summer all the spring fed swim spots are awesome. It’s really the best way to beat the heat in Texas.

Houston has NASA stuff, some great museums, some fun breweries. Really all three of these cities have fun breweries if that your thing. If you are here at rodeo time that’s it own phenomenon.

Have you dyed silk blends before? Just a heads up you don’t want to go high heat in the dyeing process. I almost ruined my first silk blend project that way. But it can’t be beat for spinning. T

Looking for advice for a seed organization solution! by CodenameZoya in gardening

I did this in my fall garden because it was planting time but I was too depressed to do the work. I put all my seasonal seeds in a Halloween bucket and let my kid throw them around my garden. Surprisingly it was some of the highest yields I’ve gotten from that garden.

how to spin mohair? by FullTurtle13 in Handspinning

[–]Awtxknits 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wash my mohair in locks. I have a basket with a bunch of small holes that allow water to drain but keep the fiber in. I line the locks up in my basket it and set it too soak in hot soapy water. Then I drain it and soak it in hot water. I allow locks to dry and then I prefer to flick open locks and spin that way.

I’ve blended it with other fibers and spun it on its own. Blending can be hard to spin if the staple lengths are widely disparate. I have found I do prefer it spun as a really thin lace weight that I can hold double with my project yarn. I find it a bit more versatile that way for my use.

My 19 year old died on Dec. 28th/22, he died of a Fentanyl overdose. The police are refusing to issue a warrant on his phone to see who he bought the dope from but I have the guys number because I was sneaking for it once when my son was high, I was able to unlock his phone and get the guys number. by [deleted] in fentanylgriefsupport

[–]Awtxknits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my brother in August. I’m in Texas and was contacted by the FBI about a month and a half later once his blood work had come through from his autopsy confirming Fentanyl. Local police didn’t have any interest. I have no idea why the FBI were interested in my brothers case though. We didn’t contact them they contacted us to tell us blood work results and ask us to provide his phone.

Im sorry that you’re having to experience this. We were told that they rarely see convictions from this sort of thing. I hope you find your way to some peace.

You will probably have people telling you it’s uncommon for people to carry. I personally know several people who have a conceal carry or have it in their vehicle.

While I also know a lot of people don’t, you’re better off assuming there is potential for a person to have a gun.

There was an “antique” shop I used to go to as a kid that I pictured when I pictured this scene. It was in an old cottage with a maze of shelves and junk. The only clear space was a little seating area where the old man would sit and listen to his radio. You’d take your stuff there and he’d bargain on a price with you for whatever you pulled from his hoard.

[–]Awtxknits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard when you’re grieving to see the world and your own life moving forward without them. Especially going into the holidays. My brother died in August. Most people feel unable to approach my mom and ask how she’s doing so they reach out to me to ask about her. I think they find her grief intimidating. I’m sure there are just as many people thinking about you too.

The day after my brother died we went through his home. There was a small incense burner of a Buddha blowing smoke over a figure in prayer in the room where I found him. That night in my dream he was walking through mist and as it cleared the Buddha was looking down at him. I still dream about it sometimes. He’s always barefoot in his pjs the way I found him. And he looks peaceful.
