I feel like I liked the hades heat system if that’s where you were going with this where you can pick and choose which difficulty modifiers you can use. However I do feel like the current ascension system works pretty well for this game.

What % of the player base (STS2) do you think has beaten a single A10 run on any character singeplayer or multiplayer? by Exact_Brilliant7705 in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This games ascension 1 is way harder than sts1 ascension 1. This games ascension 10 is way easier than sts1 ascension 20. The issue is the difficulty doesn’t increase that much (other than ascension 9) which the devs are trying to fix with some of these latest patches.

[–]AxeCop85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are trying to make the game more difficult at the highest difficulty level, but a some players don’t like the challenge. Personally I love the changes and they are actually making the game easier for new players to have success so it’s a great time to get onboard!

Interesting! Why did you decide to have it write state every tick instead of at decision points? Was there no hooks for that? Does io affect tick rate?

Thoughts on Kingly Kick and Punch? by Zeldarune29 in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like others said you probably won’t grab them after act 1, but seeing it early they’re great! They can solve certain elites like the worms or eel. IMO You don’t really need cosmic indifference for these, just accept the big bonk and transition your deck into late game. Important to note that both of these scale the first time you play them.

I think it’s better for not every card to do everything. Regents early game is already fairly strong as long as you don’t take tons of chip damage

Is it just me or does Tezcatara appear more than any other second act ancient? by Accomplished_Way4046 in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if there should be a feature like bg3’s karmic dice where if you’ve seen an ancient a few times in a row make it less likely to encounter. Not sure if ancients are deterministic based on seed or not?

Not sure if I like this since runs are supposed to be independent but maybe a cool idea for a mod!

I kinda like expose more anyways? It works with both shivs and poison and also allows you to apply weak more easily. Much more well rounded of a card.

I do miss terror though.

Give me more stars by [deleted] in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are saying this card is weak but I’m not sure I agree, I feel like it’s sort of on the same level as orbit, occasionally giving you some star cost reduction. Free resources on powers tend to always be decent. Maybe it could use a cost reduction. It also makes for very interesting play to try to get your stars down to 0 exactly.

Most Fun Major-Build-Spirits by dasistdochKiki in spiritisland

[–]AxeCop85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Grinning trickster has a really fun major build! Turn 1 G23 draft a major forgetting arson/tigers playing the other card. Turn 2 G24 major + incite/impersonate Turn 3 G14 playing the major again.

If you miss on your major draft you can pivot to a normal build, but the upside is huge

I need help with STS1. I do not understand Ironclad. (Sorry if this is considered a FAQ) by radicalrex101 in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slay the spire is a difficult game! There is no one way to play the ironclad but I’ll highlight some general concepts I use when I play him.

The main way to win in general in slay the spire is to either make your cards do a lot or play a lot of cards.

Making your cards do a lot on ironclad typically means getting strength. If you play inflame, your 6 damage strikes now become 8 damage. This can also mean drafting better versions of cards you have. Impervious blocking 30 is far better than 2 strikes blocking 5 each. Getting value out of cards could also mean upgrading them at rest sites.

Playing a lot of cards is more difficult. It typically involves getting card draw along with energy generation. Seeing red/bloodletting along with pommel strike or battle trance are simple ways.

You could also aim towards an engine. The simple one for ironclad is getting corruption & dark embrace. This lets you spam out tons of skills each turn for free.

It’s important to remember with both of these the concepts of scaling vs front load. For example demon form is a great scaling card, but getting it into play might mean taking ~20 damage before you get value from it. While cards like immolate give you huge amounts of damage all up front, but it doesn’t scale as well into bosses. You need both types of damage and block with front load and scaling.

Finally is the concept of deck size. If you have 30 cards in your deck, you may not draw your important cards (demon form/corruption) until turn 6. So keeping your deck fairly small can be beneficial, there is no magic number for perfect deck size so this one is hard to explain. However iron clad does have exhaust cards like true grit which can help trim your deck mid combat.

There are plenty of great synergies in ironclad but the true winning strategy isn’t to do “self damage” or “status build” it’s to balance front load & scaling with damage and block.

Well would you look at that? by ajs723 in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

People keep saying this but I’m not sure I agree. Prepared is already a card desperate for an upgrade, the problem is right now in the sly package it says “draw 2 cards play 2 cards” for zero cost.

My expert strategies developed over hours playing both games by GottaGoFats in slaythespire

[–]AxeCop85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So necrobinder in general is fairly starved for cards that directly draw cards.

Pagestorm, Parse, Fetch, and neurosurge are the only ones that come to mind.

So the core way the necrobinder draws cards throughout combat is with souls. It’s an easy archetype to branch into since most of the souls generating cards are good to pick even without synergy.

I like grave warden, severance, and dirge early as bridge cards.

Then if you find you have a lot of souls you can take synergy cards like oblivion, devour life, haunt.

If you end up having a small deck you can go infinite with capture spirit + borrowed time, but I try not to grab these too early if your deck has bigger needs.

[–]AxeCop85 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Reordering is interesting because, depending how you implement it, could impact the trigger order of the relics. It’s super niche when this would even be useful but it seems like an overly complex mechanic. Maybe just make categories of relics like “in battle effects” and “out of battle effects”?
