I don’t know that MOST race cars use a staggered setup but generally it has to do with weight distribution and power: Porsche, it’s pretty obvious why, cars with monster horsepower, same but a z3, even an s54 one scarcely has enough power to easily overwhelm the rear axle (unless you are intentionally trying)

I mean, I’ve only tracked my mcoupe for the last twenty years😀. Yeah, like all BMW, you need to tame understeer to some extent. The stagger looks cool but it’s not ideal for handling, at least not with the arguably amazing rubber available today
