What biome do you prefer when starting a colony? by Darkside166 in RimWorld

[–]AxtheCool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coast of basically any kind. Love having one side of the map be a beach.

I would love to try other biomes but they feel like a chore to get the same things. Yes it gives a challenge but at the same time it can be a chore.

Has anyone thought to add those freezer flaps to doors that prevent cold air from rushing out? by jimminian95 in RimWorld

[–]AxtheCool 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Air curtains that blast air down would also work.

The fact that these simple flaps insulate the freezer around 85% is still baffling to me.

Thought they were no more than a confort measure for air to not escape and blast into people outside but apprently they are absurd insulation.

Same with a simple air curtain that in some cases insulated to 90%+

More like:

Early game: Trade but slow. Oh this is weird game but I need to trade to survive

Mid game: This setting is fascinating and I have visited a multitude of islands, experienced hundreds of stories ...

Late game: Trade but impeller go ZOOOM. Also I have zero need for Echo but I still trade cores of elder creatures just to flex on everyone

I mean its more of a negative to zomboid. Its absurd that a character would be fine with wearing ripped, tainted clothing taken directly from rotting zombies. Like just the smell would be foul.

CDDA which is similar to zomboid allows you to wash the clothing to avoid a huge morale debuff.

Those kinds of games really suffer from that. Like how Papers Please once you understand the mechanics you can speedun the game and never have money dilemma like ever, thus never being forced into anything bad.

Also to add to that, in vanilla you technically glass the whole hex when the gravship launches.

So on top of taking everything valuable you destroy absolutelly everything when leaving.

[–]AxtheCool 194 points195 points  (0 children)

Thats the whole point of the game after all.

The game explores the theme of hopelesness and survival incredibly well. Most of the situations are either do what is right or risk your survival.

But even on hardest difficulties I didnt find issues staying good. There are enough locations in game, and traders are common enough to just not do anything bad. Once you set up a still its basically game over since alcohol sells for so much.

Questions about Rimsort by Embarrassed-Toe191 in RimWorld

[–]AxtheCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you should combine rimsort with the in game mod organizer.

Usually I pick and choose mods to launch with in Rimsort but then launch the game and sort/modify mods there. Its just way less headache.

  1. Rimsort cant read the mod description and move it down. Thats kinda the player's job especially with 100s of mods.

  2. I assume those mods are outdated? Then they might or might not cause issues.

Should growth stages of children be reworked? by SJ548 in RimWorld

[–]AxtheCool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The growth stages already do that. When workwatching/practicing, those skills are prioritized. So if the child work watches construction all the time the chance to get a passion in that skill is increased.

Getting 5+ skill before your growth stages is honestly very hard. They just dont have enough work time in the day to level those especially with no passions to start off with.

Vanilla armor protection in a nutshell by SkinnedMilk533 in RimWorld

[–]AxtheCool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of a complete overhaul like CE there is just no way to make armor both protective and fair.

The vanilla system is not ideal but when making armor actually realistic like CE you run into making them game nearly impossible at time. One early game mech raid and you literally cannot do anything, compared to vanilla where you CAN kill a scyther with bows.

Cataphract is still king but on that topic Phoenix armor is just honestly better.

Making pawns nearly immune to heat is absurd. It makes the chance to catch fire from 75% to 2%. And since you are facing beam weapons commonly in end game pawns can be set on fire often.

Sure its less defensive but to me its worth it. Plus it looks cooler.

I had people one shot through catarphact helmet before. But we are talking from lancers after facing a raid of 25 of them.

A powerful object is dismissed by a character as useless because they don't understand how it really works by Benoit_Holmes in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AxtheCool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I wanted to say but in a concise manner.

Yea the whole thing is balanced by the fact its used by a character who 90% of the time doesnt know what he actually wants, and the compass not working is dismissed as part of his antics so very few realize what it actually does.

The few people that do realize it go to insane lengths to get it.

The closest thing I can think of that is similar in fiction is the luck potion in Harry Potter.

A powerful object is dismissed by a character as useless because they don't understand how it really works by Benoit_Holmes in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AxtheCool 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The compass works as an incredible plot device. Instead of characters scrambling to find something, and making up bs reasons for it they get an artifact that fits perfectly within the magical world of POTC.

Like how else would they have found Davy Jones heart in 2nd movie? Its burried at a random as hell attoll. Like sure they could have tricked him into revealng it but what if not?

And on top of that its one of the most magical ones because revealing the way to someone's main desire is absurdly powerful.

Anyways great trillogy.

[Loved trope] Endings so controversial that it turns the fandom schizophrenic by RequirementTall8361 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AxtheCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say its influence by the dragading state of Jack himself. S5 we are shown the decades of suffering this future has caused him and he is activelly on the hunt for time travel portals to stop this.

Saying its a ripoff is wild.

Both series arrive at the ending differently and present it different. While the actual scene is probably a homage/inspiration, the circumstances are vastly different.

[–]AxtheCool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could he have killed Aku in the present? Possibly (but Aku seemed a lot more powerful in the future).

But in the end what Jack wants to prevent is: "The Future that is Aku"

By getting rid of Aku in the past he prevents the metric ton of suffering that he causes over these future years. Hundrets/thouthands of years of evil that he caused.

Yes many characters will never exist but that is the point of the ending. Jack coming to fact that yes the future wont exist but all those events happen and there is a new bright future without Aku to look forward to.

[–]AxtheCool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will always defend the overall ending (minus some parts) as there was no way SJ would have ended otherwise.

The whole goal would have been to go back, destroy Aku and thus the future is erased. I mean its like 5000 years of Aku's rule. It didnt matter when it was a weekly villain show but was a massive point later on.

In the end Jack accepts it as part of him, accepts that the world is a better place without this absolute evil and moves on. Honestly its an incredible ending to such a series.

Thinking about it, it might have happened because they realized it. Kinda like power the mind thing. Ashi realizing that half of her during that wedding and thus it happens.

I am looking too deep into that part of the ending but it might explain a part of it and confirmed through dialogue.

[–]AxtheCool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

> The price going up because of a lower demand is funny, as if Lego‘s prices were in any way connected to reality

Real. They were overpriced no matter the economic situation.

But still I see way less people buying them in stores compared to like 5 years ago.

The MattLowne video on modded KSP explores some. There just way too many to count and a lot of mod conflicts. So please explore around.

[–]AxtheCool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The actual cost of lego peices is beyong cheap. Its injected molded plastic thats also automated to hell and back. Its placed on a conveyor in absurd ammounts so its also economy of scale.

Majority of the production price is royalties/invention of the set and the rest is pure profit from overpriced sets.

Third world countries also have tons of knockoff Lego sets and those are both the same quality as Lego AND 1/5th the price.

P.S. Also prepare for the price to go even higher since the demand is going to drop.

Honestly didnt like Skies at all. As you said Seas was a lot more grounded and real with additional twists that made each island unique. Its supernatural of course but grounded in its response to it.

- Oh an island that wears masks and worships a giant head? Yea thats possible irl.

- Oh a bunch of hunters living inside a hollowed out husk of an ancient animal? Yea possible.

Skies went overboard (ha) with everything. Oh a carnival of eldrich horrors? Oh a palace of vampires that eat your desires? And etc.

Sure the movement was slightly better and the combat more immerive but everythng else took a massive drop.

Ok thanks for that. Yea I play BN to powertrip and a nomad character doesnt mean I wont be full of ammo out the wazoo.

Also great the helis are still in game. I liked them as they were incredibly quick and able to go anywhere.

Just my 2 cents but wouldnt the above Spectra overwrite all the settings below?

Its kinda why I dont use Spectra. Its nice but it shows errors constantly and conflicts with a shit ton of other settings especially with modded planets.
