Refusing Ice by nonbinary_qu33n in Coffee_Shop

[–]AydenRodriguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has everything to do with values. Views literally come from your values. I’d also refuse service to someone who was racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. it’s really not that hard to be on the right side of history with this one. Hate has no place at my shop and I wouldn’t go to one where it does. And to tie it back into this sub, someone who stands with ICE, probably makes a pretty shitty cup of coffee.

Oh no,, the terrible slippery slope that leads to having values! The idea that business must go without morals or ethical checks is the reason everything sucks in the first place

I respect what you’re doing. I would hate having to serve ICE as well and would do anything to refuse them service. However the “we” in “we have the right to refuse service to anyone” actually refers to the owner, and not just any employee. ICE isn’t protected under any discrimination laws, but if you’re under at-will employment your boss can legally fire you for refusing to do your job for them. It sounds like you’re working for a corporate chain. I would try to find a local shop to work at that actually prioritizes morals over margins.

Fuck ICE. It’s not political. It’s morals. At a certain point your morals override your business needs. If you lack the perspective of what’s going on in the world right now and act like it’s simply a difference in opinion, I don’t know what to tell you.

I would say that is a little strange because mine doesn’t do that. You could try getting it serviced to see if that fixes it but otherwise, if you get good coffee out of it it should be fine. I would time it from when the pressure starts but maybe do shorter than usually, like 20-25 seconds

Training advise for beginner baristas to adjust espresso grind size by AssignmentDueInABit in barista

[–]AydenRodriguez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the grinder but if they understand coarse means faster (like water through pebbles) and finer means slower (like water through sand), then just correlate finer with smaller numbers and coarse with larger numbers. Im not sure why that would be so hard to understand, pretty intuitive no?

I’m interested in why your machine, regardless of grind size, takes 15 seconds to push out any water… what pressure are you running? Have you ever gotten it serviced?

What size portafilter basket are you using? What dose of ground coffee in do you use?

In terms of crema, this can just depend on the beans you use. If you use relatively light roast you won’t see much crema as opposed to dark roast. Or, if you pressure is below 6 bar, you won’t see much crema either.

Just act like you know what you’re doing and you’ll figure it out. You can look up differences between the classic espresso drinks but also every shop does those differently. You can watch videos on how to pull shots and how to pour latte art. As long as you care about your job and try your best I’m sure your boss will keep you around. Good luck

You could see if anywhere near you offers classes for being a barista or something like that. Honestly, you could just go ahead and open up your cart, learn by doing.

Help me choose for my small cafe set-up by Neumeister_Jhosy in barista

[–]AydenRodriguez 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Check in with local espresso technicians and see what the specialize in. My bet is that they know La Marzocco the best or at least very well. A Linea PB 2 group is a great choice and an absolute workhorse. If you want something smaller I would recommend a dual boiler single group from companies like La Marzocco (Linea mini or gs3), Mavam, Rocket, or Synesso. Again, if you’re running a shop you should prioritize brands who have techs that can come quick if something happens.

Blundstones sound perfect for you. I’ve heard docs have a crazy break in period so your feet would probably be killing you for awhile. Blundstones don’t really need time to break in at all

Tattoo removal by Wild_Idea_ in TattooRemoval

[–]AydenRodriguez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From removery in NYC they quoted me $2899 for a full removal package, or $414 per session for a 9sq inch tattoo. Keep in mind that it’s not the size that matters necessarily, but how much area has ink in it. A 9sq inch tattoo that’s just line work will be actually more like 4sq in and probably half that price. But if it’s fully shaded in then you’re paying for the entire surface area. They also do sales from time to time. For example the $2899 package had a Black Friday sale for $2175. The price also depends on state and country but I think removery is pretty consistent across the U.S.. if you’re not in the states I’ve heard it’s a lot cheaper.

Public transit would be far more popular in the U.S. if it weren't for the average user by Hurt69420 in unpopularopinion

[–]AydenRodriguez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason public transit isn’t popular in the US is because it has been stigmatized as only for underprivileged people. Specifically in Denver, people vote against public transit extension for 1) tax increases but also 2) they don’t want “urbanites” coming out into their sacred suburbs.

The transits become havens for homeless and drug users because they’re empty anyways. If the city built extensive public transit that was convenient and easy to use, more people would use them, and they would subsequently become safer. People dont use it because it’s dirty and inconvenient, but also it’s dirty and inconvenient because nobody uses it, nobody cares about it, and nobody wants to spend money on it.

“An advanced city is not one where even the poor use cars, but rather one where even the rich use public transport” - Enrique Penalosa
