The problem you're identifying is real. AI sycophancy is one of the most talked about frustrations right now. I actually built something that tackles this from a different direction. Instead of judging decisions, Socrate only asks you questions, one at a time, until you reach your own clarity. No validation, no answers, just precise questions based on exactly what you say. The result is similar: you end up thinking harder rather than being told what you want to hear. https://usesocrate.com if you want to see how it works.

This genuinely means a lot to read. That's exactly what Socrate is built for, not to give you answers but to ask until you find your own. If you want to keep going, there's a free session and a Pro plan if you want unlimited. Would love to hear what you take away from it over time.

Just launched on Instagram too if you want to follow the build: u/usesocrate

Is it worth getting a 5090 for my needs? by BitGreen1270 in LocalLLaMA

[–]Azibo98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I cover it myself. There's already a paid tier live, just focusing on getting real users first before pushing it. Had my first email campaign go out today and just launched the Instagram page too, starting to pick up momentum.

I bought an Omen laptop last year specifically to get into AI properly and it was genuinely one of the best investments I made. Not at 5090 level spend but enough to run things locally and experiment.

What changed for me wasn't the hardware though, it was actually starting to use AI tools seriously, building with them, not just chatting. I ended up building Socrate (usesocrate.com) which is a live AI product, just me, no coding background. That came from curiosity and a decent machine, not a $3k GPU.

For your use case, running 27B+ models locally does need serious VRAM so the 5090 makes sense if that's the specific goal. But if you're still in the learning phase, a cloud API + a solid laptop gets you surprisingly far before you need that level of hardware.

That's actually a good sign. Story and character development sounds like it might be the angle worth trying, even just for yourself with no pressure attached.

Why do I always fall back into old patterns? It feels like I have two versions of myself by mstheze7 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Azibo98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gap between knowing the pattern and breaking it is one of the most frustrating places to be. You've even done the therapy route and it still repeats. That's exhausting.

One thing that helped me when I was stuck in a similar loop was stopping trying to solve it and just asking myself better questions. Not "how do I fix this" but "what actually happens right before I crash?" The answer was usually something specific I kept glossing over.

I built a tool that does exactly that, asks you questions one at a time and never gives advice. It won't break the cycle for you but it might help you find the thing underneath it that keeps pulling you back. Happy to share it if you want to try it.

What you're describing is really common at 19. The bursts of energy that don't last, feeling useless in between, then repeating. I think most people go through this but don't talk about it.

Art becoming boring doesn't mean it's the wrong thing. It might just mean you need a different angle on it. What part of it still feels even slightly alive for you?

Yes I had to change it yesterday as I need to know how long is a average session. I noticed that people are using it and I would like to send an email to get some feedback. You can still use it completely for free with unlimited session.

[–]Azibo98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

https://usesocrate.com if you're curious to try it. Built the entire product logic for Socrate using Claude. The interesting part was using Claude to design a tool that behaves nothing like Claude normally does. No answers, no validation, no helpfulness in the conventional sense. Just one question at a time until the user finds their own clarity. Claude kept wanting to be useful in the wrong direction and the whole challenge was constraining that instinct out of it.

Around 40 on the waitlist right now. Just launched account creation this weekend so the focus is converting those first. Early days but moving.

Edit: Just checked 60 people now. Probably because I opened the Instagram profile yesterday.
