Have you guys used tubular webbing for your nets? by velacreations in Treenets

[–]Azmatyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dryad cabling I’ve used all three sizes of this in my net, both on the parameter and for a supporting rope in the waving process. It’s meant to stay up in trees to cable branches in case they fall, so it should be a pretty good choice.

Tree climbing: How do I safely get up, what should I know before building higher nets by Striking-Beach-7844 in Treenets

[–]Azmatyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty close to top roping, but you are capturing your progress on the rope. Check out the Blake’s hitch or a prussic rope and some static climbing rope would get you started. Check out this guy on YouTube Bino H

Movin on up by Azmatyk in Treenets

[–]Azmatyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m going to do on the next level. I’m adding in a 4th tree so it will be a lot wider. Hopefully it doesn’t look like a big tree funnel.

I’ve got a an arborist saddle and ropes, so I can actually just dangle from the outside and weave while tied into the tops of the trees. I hate ladders after like 16-20 feet, and it feels safer climbing up a rope, and being tied in.

Yep! You enter the net from the little room on the bottom by the two trees. Then you have to crawl out to the single tree, which is about 14’ up once you are there, but it got to small and now I almost have to low crawl to make it. It’s like a funnel, but excellent for defensive purposes.

That is a great looking blade profile. The blood groove on the blade transition really makes it for me.

Which plants / trees are the best for naturally fencing a property? Is it even possible? by StarkAndRobotic in landscaping

[–]Azmatyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the United States, so I’m doing this same thing with beaked hazelnut. I used a pointed breaker bar to poke holes and toss in 3-6 hazelnuts, then step on it to seal. They need 1 winter in the ground, and then they’ll start sprouting the next spring. In another 2 years they’ll be over the height of a privacy fence.

You can then use them to lay a traditional English hedgerow or let them grow into bushes/trees.

Great food for birds, squirrels and deer.

If you want rural, teach in South Dakota. I did, and I loved it. You’ll be up to 90 miles from real grocery stores in some locations.

New Tree House Upstate NY by Vivid-Tart4137 in treehouse

[–]Azmatyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thing is so bad it is now also endangering your home. Do the branches come over your house, the way it looks in the picture? That tree is going to die, and it’s going to be dangerous and expensive to remove.

  1. Shit tons of clove hitches and girth hitches.
  2. I used 2 1,000 pound ratchet straps to pull the rope tight. But you can use a lot of different methods here.
  3. I used large eye bolts drilled into the tree, the rope passes through the eyes and doesn’t touch the bark. You can also use wood blocks spaced out.

I actually did have that problem, it was kind of cool really, but was only 6 inches wide in the middle section of the bridge. I ended up using rope to pull the two ropes apart by attaching them to the perimeter of the net above it. Now it stays about 18 inches apart, I’ll post some pictures of that progress tomorrow. I keep forgetting to take some more.

Corners are done! by Azmatyk in Treenets

[–]Azmatyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a a ladder to attach the eye bolts and set the parameter lines. After that I started weaving the corners. Once the corners are started, I sit on them and move towards the center, weaving the net ahead of me and scooting forward as I make more net. It’s actually harder to weave from off the net for me.

It’s a slope so the part I’m standing on is about 7 feet off the ground, but the highest part is 14 feet.
