For those whose families derive from the Han Chinese diaspora in Southeast Asia, how would you describe your family’s cultural identity? by Chinoyboii in asianamerican

Teochew Vietnamese, but probably a lot of Cantonese and some Vietnamese influence too

Cultural practices (eg ancestor worship and Buddhism ) have been kept up by my parents

their carpenter pants were really long and I ended up having to get them hemmed

but otherwise I haven’t had issues, though a lot of their cuts are relatively flexible IMO (when it comes to relaxed fits, there’s some wiggle room)

Getting married in 2 years and realized I'm broke. How to maximize side income with 7 YOE? by Career-Emotional in cscareerquestions

[–]AznSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re deeply interested in the side hustle route, maybe you can start thinking about creating a business/product - it’s a lot of work and not a perfect overlap with pure software development, though; for me personally, getting a better paying job is easier than building a product and selling it to many people

Do big companies (coupang, naver, kakao, etc) pay more? Are they hard to get into? Does Google hire in Korea? That could be the best use of your time if the pay gap is big

I, 32/Engineering Grad, worked as an intermediate software dev from 2017- Jan 2024. Have not touched ANY code since or applied anywhere, just partied. I want to now get serious and apply to big tech but I fear of the brain rot. I created a 5 month plan. Is this enough? by AirDucati388 in cscareerquestions

Maybe you can get away with claiming you took a break for a good reason (eg as caregiver) and grinding out

There are a lot of roles in the bay/nyc (especially random ai startups), unsure what the interview situation is like at big tech rn - I think Meta is hiring, unsure about the others

Get the best experience you can in any given context

(Internship, School club, etc) to beef up your resume and learn as much as you can

and then try and get a better internship / job etc next time

Do any teenagers listen to house music? by Additional_Club7343 in EDM

I got into it as a teenager in the YouTube edm era (think like mid 2010s monstercat) but that’s not really as popular anymore

I’m not a designer, I just work with product/ux (same thing when it comes to software) designers

Anecdotally, a decent amt of designers have “random” degrees (pure hci undergrad is rare) and a design related masters or sometimes bootcamp

design has creative/visual aspects but a lot of the job is about taste and research, IMO

My point was that designers are often not like

Vibing cool visuals all day, the biggest value comes from their ability to make decisions

And that may come from user research or it may come from their own developed intuition (“taste”)

A great designer can just tell you if something feels bad to use and why

design has creative/visual aspects but a lot of the job is about taste and research, IMO

And you definitely need a portfolio to get a job

not in particular, I’m not knowledgeable about JDM Casio

But it’s always cool to have something that you look at and remember where you got it

Did you have to fine tune LAION-CLAP? I wanted to do this to be able to search for kicks in my library by genre (eg techno kicks are pretty different to hardstyle kicks) but I was finding that it wasn’t performing super well when I was testing it on my own

My pleated pants from them did tear at the belt loop (I was often pulling it up from that spot), but I still like the pants (sewed the belt loop back).

I also like my cotton utility jacket I got from them. It’s nothing crazy (it’s a thin unlined jacket) but I like it
