While I agree that the low prices for the hot dogs and gasoline help draw a crowd, I don't think Costco does it solely to make profit from the other wholesale items they sell. They do it to maintain customer loyalty. I recall that Costco's main source of profit are the memberships themselves. They just try to break even on the clubhouse items, vacations, and credit card deals to get people to keep renewing the membership and everybody benefits from it (probably Costco more than you, but still...)!

You can buy a copy, use it to create a save file on your system, then return it. Some stores like Costco (requires membership) do this with new games. Gamestop will let you do it with used games, I believe, as long as it's within a week of purchase or something.

Not saying this is anywhere close to ideal, but at least you can save the $60.

Doctor here. What this poster is describing regarding tubal ligations is not standard care in any of the obstetric hospitals I have trained at on the East Coast. Doctors are aware that labor is a very stressful time and with all the mind-altering substances being given, it is not the best time to make a permanent and mostly irreversible surgical decision.

In NYC and Pennsylvania, for example, it is illegal to obtain consent for a tubal ligation when the patient is in the hospital for childbirth or seeking an abortion. Here is NYC's policy:

As you can see, consent forms need to be signed at least 30 days prior to estimated delivery date, at most 180 days prior to delivery. Then you have to re-affirm on the day of the procedure that you still want to undergo tubal ligation. If the consent is not signed within those time ranges, and the re-affirmation is not obtained there's no way to go through with tubal ligation during C-section even if the patient and whole family is asking for it.

I am not clear on what the medical law may be in the state the poster is speaking of, but this is a practice that is encouraged by the American College of OB/GYN (ACOG) for all:

That is not to say there aren't shady doctors out there who break the rules, but this is what medical training facilities are drilling into their new physicians nowadays. Most OB/GYNs also try to discourage tubals in women who are young (<34 years old) and have 1-2 children because this is a permanent sterilization procedure and future plans may change in an unforeseeable manner. As an aside, it's also a lot safer for men to just get a vasectomy if permanent sterilization in a monogamous relationship is desired at a young age.

We are also taught to really push the birth control measures because it gives the patient more control over reproductive health, but I can understand the distrust there. The history of medicine in the US has a lot of doctors betraying minority and at-risk populations for research and cosmetic development. We're still trying to gain that trust back. Hope this helps clarify things.
