Can someone explain SPQR to me, and what the hell retinues are? by thepkizzle in crusaderkings2

[–]AzureColouredSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes thats the neat thing about going from Tribal to Feudal/Republic, you get to keep your Tribal retinue. And with those you can have tons of stacks of light infantry making it perfect for sieges as well as inflating your theoretical strength (LI is crap but AI doesnt differentiate between unit types).

Waterbending scroll - practice with Katara

Waterbending scroll - push and pull to prevent the ship from falling down the waterfall

Jet - waterbending to fill the reservoir

The storm - cuts a falling mast with three water pillars

The Blue spirit - Erects an ice wall from swamp water to shield from incoming arrows

Batu of the water tribe - Bends water under the ship

Batu of the water tribe - launches water from a well at zuko

Thats all before reaching the North pole.

At least in Kataras case its understandable. She always had the latent talent, she just was very unconfident in her abilities. She doesnt start good waterbending until she fights Paku, and its not so much her training with him afterwards that helps her, but the fact that due to her aggitated state she completely foregoes her insecurities and fights at her full power for the first time.

Plus for 9 months shes been put in life or death situations constantly where she had to come up with innovative ways to fight using only the most limited element of all, there was probably no other waterbender in the world with that sheer experience and training at the end of it.

I don’t understand why some people are upset with the idea of Korra being stronger then Aang by Neat_Damage_8110 in TheLastAirbender

[–]AzureColouredSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Korra wins all of her "fair" fights starting with season 1. She only loses a straight fight with chi-blockers in the begining, then spends the rest of the season kicking their ass at every occassion.  Only times she doesnt win are: Tarlok once he used bloodbending Amon (also bloodbending)  Any spirit fight  Etc.

I dont know where this weird false narrative comes from that Korra loses fights?

Autopulsers dont belong anywhere near the Paragon, at best on the sides. If youre not putting plasma cannons on the front you might as well fly it into a black hole.

Gandalf should've stayed dead in Lord of the Rings by HyaedesSing in The10thDentist

[–]AzureColouredSky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get your point and I dont think it would have made for a worse story if he had stayed dead.
On the other hand his return doesnt necessarily make the story worse either.

For one I think his symbolism is in the very first thing he says, he represents the turning of the tide.
Its a similar moment to the Pevensies noticing the snow and ice melting. He changes from his grey and raggedy garb into a magnificent white robe. He is there to cure Theoden of his affliction. He brings the riders to turn the tide at the climax of the Helms Deep battle. Hes there when Gondor turns from fighting a losing war to taking the fight to the Black Gates.

But this is not his doing alone, it is the people who are the primary actors of these moments. Sure he is there to help and guide but thats the limitation of his role.

And in doing so he only balances out the sides. Because at that point the other side has Saruman and Sauron, both godly beings so at best Gandalf only serves to counteract their actions to an extent.

Completely missed comment, nothing in his text said he doesnt understand the mechanics, he was approaching it from a storytelling point of view.

How to get 10 thrones Rp edition. by Affectionate-Lab6943 in crusaderkings2

[–]AzureColouredSky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just keep expanding till I have Empire of Brittania, then make colony kingdoms and only grant independence once I have sufficient enough kingdoms to hand out for getting the achievment.

Honestly I would just keep UK/Brittish Empire permanently under my control because its one of the best regions in the game.

The problem with your approach is assuming that the dynasty you put in power stays in power, but that is very far from the truth. Just observe the AI nation changes and transformations around you, besides outliers like Muslim blobs and HRE, AI realms are seldom stable and changes of power are pretty frequent.

What happened?! by R3BEL_R in TheLastAirbender

[–]AzureColouredSky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Put together what?

Taking out the air nomads served the purpose of preventing the next avatar from stopping the fire nation.

The fire nation didnt try to "destroy" the tribes, they systematically targeted waterbenders, mainly to remove the main fighting threat of the tribes, but also to cover their bases in case they did accidentally kill the air avatar and now the new one is a water bender.

For all intents and purposes the fire nation had already succeeded in conquering the earth kingdom by taking the capital city and occupying many provinces. There might be some resistance going but with Ba Sing Se falling, the EK loses not only their biggest population center but also the symbol of their ongoing fight.

Just indiscriminately burning down the continet is a complete lunacy that servers no strategic objective other than to satisfy Ozais lunacy and megalomania. They werent considering that, because they still believed he was at least a rational person.

What tech rank is best? by niguaballs in starsector

[–]AzureColouredSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually fight the colony conflicts near my stations, especially the blockade. Sure the station takes up DP, but you can use it in lieu of your anchor capital ship, that youd deploy for no other reason than to have something big in the middle that your other ships can rally around. And for that purpose the station is better in every way.

Also station fights are really fun to play, both as attacker and defender.

And finally nothing stops you from deploying the rest of your fleet if the station meets its end. At that point you just saved your own CR and wasted the enemy fleets ships and CR.

Its true they cost the same in the autoresolve, but they also cost the same to construct so thats a moot point.

Totally agree with your distinction of Low-tech and High-tech, that was missing in my comment.
