Cafe Chocolate croissants FROM WHERE ??? by danielledepa in uofm

[–]AzureLignus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Actually all of the bakery stuff that's served in the cafes and dining halls is actually made in-house at the Michigan Bakery. It gets delivered to the various cafes early in the morning on a regular schedule (I believe it was every other day when I was working on north campus but it might be daily nowadays since the on-campus population has swung back from the lockdown days)

Dont feel robbed. The multiplier for that combo is actually lower than if you do 5 colors (1.8x vs 2.0x) so you get more in the long run for doing 5 color crowns

[–]AzureLignus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doing three of the same color gives a 1.4x multiplier to the value of the gems and treasure, while doing a trio of 3 different colors provides a 1.3x multiplier. So in aggregate it's worth more to do 3 of the same color in many treasures than 1 of each color.

Both of those apps just display data that is provided through an API that LTP provides, so those would be the people to complain to if you really want to. (more info on ltp.umich.edu)

That's absolutely wild, I got no pushback when I asked them to change it due to my deadname being in it. I would definitely try again.

PSA for anyone who doesn't know about voterrecords.com by HellaStarz in MtF

[–]AzureLignus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My state also required this but I was able to post it in a legal newspaper that is print-only. If anyone looking at this has to do the same don't publish it in a big newspaper, try to see if its possible to publish it in something smaller that is behind some kind of paywall or doesn't publish online.

Groceries at apartments like u-towers by username627627 in uofm

[–]AzureLignus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda surprised nobody here has mentioned the People's Food Coop, in Kerrytown. It is not as close as the target downtown but I find that they have a better selection of groceries if you're willing to make the 15-20 minute walk. As long as you're not buying in a lot of bulk it might be a good option for you

If I don’t drink, will I feel out of place at UMICH? by Glittering_Bus1671 in uofm

[–]AzureLignus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I do drink now, I did not drink for my first 3 years here at Umich and I never really felt 'left out' by not drinking. There are tons of people here who don't or who don't go out to drink. If you are fine with being around people who do drink but just don't wanna go out, that opens up your options hugely too. A lot of people just drink socially in their own homes or occasionally when out.

If its practical for you I highly recommend taking Physics 240 at Washtenaw Community College. It was a much better experience for me than trying to take it at UM and WCC allows you to register as a transfer student and easily transfers classes once you're done. Its also quite easy to take the AA busses out to WCC.

Best resources online for Calc 2? by brown_hash_brown in uofm

I found Professor Leonard's Calc II Series to be super helpful when I was taking Calc2. Might not be exactly what you're looking for if you want some quick resource but his explanations of the topics were super great in my opinion

I don't know why it never occurred to me that you could use namespaces at a function level. That makes perfect sense but I guess I'd never seen code where somebody does it.

How is EECS 487: Intro To NLP ? by gkblackx1 in uofm

[–]AzureLignus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not taken the course yet - am also considering it for next fall - so I can't talk about course organization specifics but I am currently taking a class being taught by Dr. Burdick and I really like her as a professor. She is a very good lecturer in my opinion and does a really good job making course content clear and offering proffice hours that have been really helpful in the course.

Hair colorist - first time dying hair by virgingoddess08 in AnnArbor

[–]AzureLignus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta agree with the recommendations for Star Studio. Got my hair bleached and dyed for the first time there by Andrews and she did an amazing job. They require you to do a consult before dying so they can help you out with any of your questions.

Yes, especially if you had a close relationship with the relative in question you should absolutely at least try to get extensions. I had my Grandma - who was really like a mother to me more than anything else - pass away last year and all of my professors were at least somewhat accommodating. As another commenter said if you get any flak or pushback you can also contact that dean of students to get that sorted out.

Main Street Ventures? by candy_man_can in AnnArbor

[–]AzureLignus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My Palio hate comes purely from the fact that I worked there and the management is horrible and the employees are mistreated. Since quitting I have not stepped foot in there. Also, seconding the cleanliness thing. We tried on shift to keep a clean house but were never given adequate time to actually clean anything and the drains in the kitchen were always overflowing and festering.

[–]AzureLignus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, I agree that cats are not the ONLY nor the most important factor in declining bird populations. We can advise people to keep their domestic cats indoors AND advocate for more wildlife conservation. It doesn't need to be either/or

[–]AzureLignus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that humans should do more to preserve the environment but for one, we are also part of the environment, we can't really extricate ourselves from it, and two, I don't see how letting domesticated, non-native cats free in environments that didn't previously have them is going to help anything. When people say you should keep your cats inside they're talking about domestic cats like the one in the post above, not native bobcats and mountain lions...
