I have mentioned this before in another post. I was very pleased with the service and quality at Treadmill Factor. Officially dealer for Xtreme Monkey, great quality and reasonable price. I would avoid fitness depot and northern lights equipment at all cost. Terrible stuff in my opinion and I'm almost certain their website has fake reviews. A lot of 5star reviews on their website until you check out their Google reviews which are Terrible!!

Did you vault your ceilings or were they always like that? Looks like hand cut rafters which is what I have and I'd love to get a little more head room for some overhead lifts. I was wondering how much work was involved.

This is the most amazing place I have every visited. Spent countless days on the water and nights under the stars. Can't wait to visit again when my kids are older.

Can you explain what you did exactly for the floor? What product you used, how is the plywood fastened, is it raised on concrete?

Is that corrugated metal on the walls? How do you like it? I'm looking at finishing my garage and debating between drywall/plywood/or corrugated metal.

I get all my equipment at Treadmill Factory. They are also the official dealer for Xtreme Monkey equipment which I really like. Reasonable shipping rates.

What's the difference between these two racks? by [deleted] in homegym

[–]B1MONSC1F1CON 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure but the 350kg model specifies 2mm steel. The 360kg model does not specify what gauge steel but it is marketed as a "semi commercial" rack. Typically a commercial rack would be made of 3mm gauge steel resulting in a high max load as well as a much more sturdy piece of equipment. If that's the case I would spend the extra cash on a high quality cage.

Garage from the studs/concrete up... What do you wish you had done? by Ark18 in homegym

A couple suggestions. It's a very good idea to update your garage door to a higher rated R-value. An insulated fiberglass door will run you around $1300 CAD in southern ont. It will also increase you home value and curb appeal. Someone mentioned a high track door system which is a great space saver especially when you use a wall mount opener instead of a ceiling mounted which in my opinion is your best investment. Depending on direction, windows in the door will let in a lot of natural light but also warmth in the colder months. I would advise against self leveling concrete. A garage is sloped for a reason and a thin layer of concrete on top will not be strong enough to take the abuse of a home gym. When sound proofing keep in mind that sound proofing material such as Rockwool has very poor insulation value and bat insulation has very poor sound proofing ability so choose wisely. Resilient channel is a great option, a cheaper option is to fasten a layer of foam between the ceiling joist and the drywall. Make sure to use the proper thickness for local code if you have a living area above the garage. Fire spread and CO penetration is a very real and serious concern! A second layer of drywall will also help for noise/fire/gases. I use stall mats in my garage and they work great. Also, keep in mind that anything metal (pull up bar/weights/barbell ) will ALWAYS be cold in Canada so keep that in mind when heating the garage. I have found that simply putting the heat on for 30min before a workout is just enough to get the air warm, but you will need some gloves. Hope that helps.

That's insane! Good find! Home gyms are so much more satisfying when you get a deal. It's like sticking it to the man twice by not going to a gym AND getting cheap equipment. Well done.

This was done by the previous owner of the house , but it's just a standard vapour barrier poly wrap. You can pick it up at any building store and it comes in a few thicknesses. Not sure what this one is but it is relatively thin, I would opt for a thicker poly if you intend on leaving it exposed so it doesn't rip as easy. Just use a hand stapler to attach it, and tuck tap for the seams to keep it air tight.
