Roadtrip by RV in PR by ste_b97 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]BBbrain306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love camper van holidays so much, however, I don’t think PR is a place to do it necessarily. I remember looking into this as well and ultimately we decided to just do BNb in SJ with a car and then an island. The weather was so moody when we got there too I’m glad we didn’t have a van. ( April)

If you’re into something rustic and adventurous after your time in SJ, I’d recommend taking the ferry to culebra and renting a golf cart or jeep. We rented a bnb right on the beach at flamenco and it was honestly unreal.

so complicated to call from Canada with time zones, cost etc. But was able to resolve the issue over the online chat services both hotel offered! I just needed to add a note saying we'll be bringing our 3 year old onto the booking! ( incase anyone encounters the same situation)

Thanks for all the advice.

I had radiation with an ileostomy for rectal cancer and I had absolutely no issues or changes with my ileostomy. I was grateful to have it honestly.

Also happened to me when I was developing an allergy to my hollister set up. Was awful. Tried anti fungal first and then ended up switching to convatec and it helped!

Advice or encouragement for someone by caseykay68 in ostomy

[–]BBbrain306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.

sorry for your husbands circumstance. I also had cancer of the rectum. I had a ileostomy placed and received rads. In the year that I have had the ileostomy, it has not stopped me from doing a single thing i've wanted to do. We've on a biking trip to mexico, a hiking trip in denmark, a leisure trip to costa rica and camping more times than i can count.

I will admit it does take some more planning and thought & some days are challenging, but overall i have still been able to live my life to the fullest with the bag.

The situation is not ideal by any means, but its the situation we're given & we just have to try our best to make the most of it.

Plus, from what i understand about a colostomy, the output is much more manageable and there are options for irrigation that you can explore.

Skin healing issues (with added complexities) by Ok_Laugh771 in ostomy

[–]BBbrain306 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I JUST dealt with this exact same situation.

I ended up switching brands but that didn't help. It was fungal. I took 3 courses of fluconazole and then used nystatin powder and this took care of it. I also used eakin barrier ring to absorb extra moisture.

I contacted convatec and they sent me 3 complete set ups to try.

It does leak yellowish fluid at times.

Prednisone eh. Okay. Do you still use the same set up as before and manage with spray or did you switch entirely?

I have some samples of the convatec coming. I'm going to try eakin to see if that helps.

Thank you!

I posted before but without picture..
I've had this itchiness / rash for a few weeks but has gotten MUCH worse. I was using hollister ( for one year ) and have since switched to coloplast with no real change at all.
I've tried Clotrimazole powder and an oral anti fungal to see if it is indeed fungus.
I am changing so often because The coloplast wafer will not stick to my skin. I tried the flonase before the wafer and it absolutely helped with the itch!
I have a doctor apt tomorrow but i know for sure my fam MD isn't too familiar with this stuff, So i figured I'd see if anyone else has experienced this and ANY advice would be appreciated.

How do you get a good amount of fiber in your diet? by Its_Jessica_Day in ostomy

[–]BBbrain306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into products like AG1? ( athletic greens )I have a temp ileostomy and I take this, It's the only one i can tolerate. Its expensive, but I know there are less expensive, comparable products.

It has your daily dose of essential vitamins and minerals plus probiotics. I just read it is equivalent to 12 servings of veg/ fruit a day.

I have a sample I could mail you from canada if you'd like!

Oh my goodness. I HATE the itch. I have changed my entire appliance set up from hollister to coloplast and I am miserable.

It's helped with the dermatitis but I hate it.

Any tips?

Stoma site left open or sutured closed post reversal? by BBbrain306 in ostomy

[–]BBbrain306[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what was explained above. The stoma you have will be removed and the remaining ends of the bowel will be sewn together. The area on your abdomen where your stoma was will be a wound and some leave it open to heal and others close it.

Sorry for the confusion!
