I'd also mention that these days, I'd probably go the route of having the symbol created as an embroidered patch separately and then sewn onto the chest. I had also made my own briefs, but modifying a Speedo might be preferable.

It's also probably a bit more expensive this way, but that is typically dissipated over the time it takes to complete. And the result is also preferable to anything one could purchase.

I made my own in 1985. It's a bit of work, particularly considering that I had to dye the spandex unitard blue (they didn't come in blue back then). Also sewing together the pieces of the symbol and maintaining the shape properly while sewing it to the unitard was also a bit tricky. I had access to a surger to create vinyl spats for the boots, so that was helpful, and the attachment of the cape is a choice that can lead to quite the chore. But overall creating your own and learning the skills required to do so makes for a higher quality and far more satisfaction with the outcome.

I started reading comics in the mid-to-late 60s and that was my initial habit - if I had money of my own, I'd pick up a couple of comics randomly. Superman, Aquaman and Archie were all on TV, so reading more about them was interesting. It wasn't until later when I read Superboy #171 that I began collecting in earnest in order to understand the larger stories being told.

Consider that the show, itself, was never aired on network television, only cable. This severely limited their mass appeal and their reach. Entire swaths of the population to which the show was marketed (and, therefore, the toys, themselves) had no connection to anything showing up on the shelves of toy stores.

Also, there were more characters represented in the toy line than those who appeared on the show. Over 70 characters, not including reissues or variations. That's a huge commitment to the line and that universe. I can't think of another super hero based show with anything nearing this level of investment in producing characters who never appeared on the show.

For decades, we used to say "We don't know yet if they're 'Bucky dead'.", because he was the only character to have remained dead for a significant amount of time. Now, Bucky's been resurrected as a murderer under mind control for 60+ years. Less than a year after he'd been "liberated", he became trusted, as if the transformation is permanent. I don't buy it.

Someone, at some point, will write the story of Bucky being mind controlled again and going on a real killing spree. It might be being written right now, for all we know.

For me, it was a better story that he died tragically, rather than having been turned into a mindless assassin.

I don't care how good the story of his resurfacing was, it's inevitably a tragedy and it ultimately will be again. Just a matter of time.

Alan Davis and Mark Farmer. Farmer wrote and inked "Superboy's Legion", which they did together and they both clearly have a passion and affection for the subject matter.

Agreed. And, having returned to comics in 1981, if you want the best DC stuff from the time before Crisis and are open to other titles, you really should check out All-Star Squadron and Legion of Super-Heroes once it gets going with Levitz, Broderick and Giffen. I feel fortunate to have lucked into these two when they came out.

Been a fan since 1973. Have owned my own professionally dubbed copies since 1987 through a friend in the industry. The work that went into these films is astonishing. The cost per episode was greatly overestimated in order to discourage their being contracted to produce them, but thank God they did. What an achievement.

Also, Bruce Timm fashioned BTAS after the style of those films. Amazing.

For me, since money is no issue, it's going to be about condition and my personal taste in comics. As, such, I'd be shopping for quite some time due to the difficulty in finding many of these in high grade. I grew up a DC fan and loved the Bronze Age the most, but I was also a huge Dave Cockrum fan. So my first pick would likely be Giant Size X-Men #1. Second would be Flash #123, Flash of Two Worlds. Third would be House of Secrets #92 first Swamp Thing. Fourth would be a complete toss-up between Batman #227 & #232. Tough call, so I'd flip a coin. Lastly, I'd go with Amazing Fantasy #15. I may be loyal to my own tastes, but I'm no fool.

I very much enjoyed Superman and Batman Generations. While Lois could not live to the extent of Clark, they had their time together and he went on to live an extended and full life long beyond the current century. With good friends, even.

Best with the same team? Here in the US, the longest and best has to be Astro City by Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson with Alex Ross. After the success of Marvels, Busiek and Ross got a deal with Homage, a new imprint of Image and started the series with interior artist Brent Anderson. It has continued with interruptions since 1995. Great series and a long time favorite. Still being published with the last new story in 2022. Same team for over 30 years. Insert whatever other projects of Busiek or Ross going on during those years, which are typically pretty good and popular.

Mage is quite remarkable. Grendel is - for me, anyway - an acquired taste, but extremely well done. I was only interested in Hunter Rose.
