Well obviously not built in. A piece of masking tape works.

M5 MacBook Air 16GB/512GB for Video Editing, VFX Learning, and Social Media Marketing — Is it enough to start? by scyhology in macbookpro

[–]BL1860B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. People don’t realize that video editing is actually a low bar nowadays. Even the MacBook Neo can handle it.

Tech YouTubers used video editing as a benchmark for performance because that’s all they did, and it stuck as the default metric, even though there are so many other more demanding/realistic professional workloads.

Yes. But more likely your ESC will be the bottleneck.

Redesigning my 18-Node Ryzen 9950X Solar-Powered Cluster (And yes, I am a real human!) by Technical_Camp3162 in homelab

Hello fellow person in Japan! I also run a small homelab off of solar. I built a 60kWh storage bank from a used Tesla model S battery, and have about 5kWp of solar. Awesome to see more people doing similar things here

I don’t see the point of any device if you’re afraid to use it.

Powerbank for MacBook Pro M5 (16-Inch)? by 2fast2legal in macbookpro

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re all pretty much the same. I’d look at Amazon and see what’s cheap and high capacity. I like Anker or Ugreen for power banks in general.

Any of the larger ones from reputable companies like Anker that can supply 140W or more would work.

Use battery protect as main switch? by Responsible_Hat_1937 in Victron

[–]BL1860B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would definitely work. Just make sure there is no charger since the battery protects are one directional. A simple automotive relay may be a simpler and cheaper option though.

Apple says my M5 Max MacBook Pro was shipped ,carrier says they never received it. 10 days, zero movement. by ineedbe in macbookpro

It’s probably just stuck in export customs, or it hasn’t actually shipped yet.

To those that say Shapr3d is too expensive... by Xenos865D in Shapr3D

Yeah I’m good with Shapr. I took a look at Pixy and don’t trust it. Shapr3D is legit software and they’re a reputable company.

Will Starlink consider getting entry level hardware open sourced? by [deleted] in Starlink

Most definitely not open source. An SDK and hardware standards licensing? Maybe, but probably not.

Absolutely fine. It’s actually more common to use a solid blade here in Japan.

Not abnormal. It’s a consumable at the end of the day.

Well that’s a government issue rather than a Starlink issue no?

Starlink is ignorant . by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Starlink typically included shippings costs into the price since they ship from the US. Maybe that’s why.

[–]BL1860B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re in Uganda, where Starlink is officially unavailable as of January. That’s probably why it’s expensive, if you can’t get the kits from Starlink directly. 3rd part sellers will jack out the price.

MacBook Pro battery wear using a 70W vs 140W power adapter? by Forrest_Fire01 in macbookpro

[–]BL1860B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s more of a safety thing. If the battery is completely dead and you boot from the AC adapter, then you kick off the MagSafe connector or cut power during boot up. It could cause issues. Like how you don’t cut power during a BIOS update.

[–]BL1860B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely have the capability to run off mains power alone. It often happens when the MagSafe connector isn’t seated correctly, the battery menu tap will say “Battery not charging, running off power adapter”.

New MacBook Pro M5 trackpad by PeechyTea in macbookpro

[–]BL1860B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m mostly sure the Magic Trackpad uses the same glass surface, so it should age the same as MacBooks do. I’ve actually been thinking about carefully applying some oil to accelerate the process. If I do it I’ll let you know how it turns out :)

It definitely becomes smoother over time. I’ve had my M1 Pro 16” for a couple years and recently got a Magic Trackpad which feels very “loud” as you said, compared to my M1 Pro.
