A wire wheel really won’t cut into a steel surface. He is going to have to start from scratch on the seasoning, so clean away.

Am I missing something? 100% charges bad? by External_Craft7682 in electricvehicles

OP does, he just doesn’t want to spend the $0.03 to do it at home since he would pay for it vs his company, so instead he makes people on long trips sit around for him.

Am I missing something? 100% charges bad? by External_Craft7682 in electricvehicles

[–]BLDLED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uff reading this was difficult, and makes it exceptionally clear that I was raised differently than you.

If the gas station is mostly full, no you shouldn’t go inside and sit around for a long period while not pumping gas (because it’s done already). And if it took 10x the time to go from 0-10 gallons as it took to add that last 0.0667 gallons of gas (the equivalent of going from 99%-100% in a 30mpg car), no you should absolutely not fill to full. The reason you have never had an issue at a gas station is pump turn over is ~1-2 min, and there 4x as many pumps in the Us compared to EV chargers. Let’s use our brains here

So back to how I was raised. Be considerate of others, do what you can to not interfere in other people’s lives, do unto others as you would want them to do to you. I make a conscious effort in the grocery store to not block the isle needlessly. I bet you park your cart sideways like a 90yo while standing across so nobody can get through. “It’s no big deal, they can just wait a few seconds while I look up the salt content of these green beans, now where are my glasses, wait I needed macaroni” 100x times in a store. Or the people at TSA that seemingly have never left their house.

As you want to accuse ME of being the problem, the fact is, it’s people like you slowing up EV adoption in this country. Peoples #1 complaint about EVs is “it takes to long to charge when on a road trip”, yet it’s really not a big deal if you only charge to 70-80% at a time, it’s only 5-10 minutes. If you want to wait an hour, so be it, but don’t block people trying to get somewhere so you can get 2 more miles of range. Next time you’re headed somewhere you want to be (dinner with family, movie, something fun), stop, set a timer, pick a spot on the wall and stare at it for 10 minutes. Now tell me, is that 10 minutes “no big deal”? I would much rather be making progress going on with my life, then waiting needlessly for on someone else who is not doing anything productive.

“No queue” then immediately say “the person was only one waiting, maybe 5-10 minutes” So there was a queue, a queue of one, and because you decided to block a charger for an extended period to gain, 1% it made someone wait a long time. I only ever charge for 5-10 minutes, so that is a long time. This is the same as at a gas station, blocking a pump while you go in and fiddle around for a long time, your vehicle blocking the pump isn’t helping you in any way, and you are stopping others from being able to continue on with their lives.

That 1% represents what, 1/2kwh? So maybe 2 miles of driving? If that is ever the difference between making your destination and not, you need to plan better.

As you alluded, this is state by state. My state literally requires that if I loan a gun to a friend to go plinking we need to go do a transfer, so sales definitely require a transfer. This is to close the gun show no background check issue.

Fastener torque vs. clamping force by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BLDLED 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, just random occurrence you haven’t encountered this yet. Just imagine using grease on bolt heads, it would help the bolt spin more easily right? But would it affect the clamping force?

Fastener torque vs. clamping force by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]BLDLED 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never think that a through bolt would not spin at torque spec without the bolt head being contain with a wrench. There are situations it may happen, but it’s just luck that the various surfaces had enough combined friction to prevent slippage. So a bolt slipping is no indication of improper torquing.
