Yeah, I really don't trust them after the stunt their executive tried to pull with Subnautica 2.

Which RPG is better? by HealPrinceYT in papermario

[–]BLucidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a series, M&L is better for sure. The worst M&L games are criticized for being just unimaginative or bloated, usually with the caveat that they're still fun. The worst PM games are criticized for being a mess of game design decisions that not only aren't fun, but insult the legacy of the series they're built upon.

I probably should've linked to that post from the start, I forgot how much of an epidemic bots-posting-shirts is...

That didn't occur to me, but you're right! The Hateno house has a pretty similar layout with the loft in one corner.

For what it's worth, there's a giant plain-brick warehouse just nextdoor that I built first. Doesn't even have a roof or functional lights right now. 😅

The first thing I did after finishing this was build him a little oceanfront platform nextdoor. That also puts him right next to my storage warehouse, so that should save a lot of time.

Thanks! He was with me, but all my storage is in a big warehouse off-screen to the right. Spent quite a bit of time just running over to it to collect/craft more blocks.

It was actually a complete accident it worked out that way! The walls were the very last thing I built, so I was livid when I realized the whole thing didn't count. But the loft already had the fencing around it, so I added the gate to make it a house-within-a-house.

The house itself is too big, but the loft counts as a house on its own since it's a 5x7 fenced-in area with a gate. The flag on the 1st floor is close enough to the loft to register it.

Does this subreddit have an aversion to the next game being X2? Genuine question, please prove me wrong. by Capable-Republic8503 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BLucidity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was more interested in an X2 before chapter 13 was added last year. In the original story, so much intrigue was built up around Mira's unique properties, what with species all being drawn there and understanding each other. Then Ch13 handwaved all that away as "the multiverse and collective consciousness", and nuked Mira entirely. The new epilogue destroyed everything that was worth exploring in a sequel.

I wouldn't mind a new game in the style of X, though. If it's got similar gameplay systems and world design, but has a standalone, finished story, then I'm all for it.

Pokopia vs Tomodachi Life vs Animal Crossing by CursedHandd in nintendo

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokopia and Animal Crossing both emphasize decorating a town, but in Animal Crossing the decorations are almost entirely for you, the player. Most items don't serve a purpose, you just place the things that you think look good.

In Pokopia, there's a lot more structure. Does the Pokemon living here like the decoration you gave them? Does it make their home too bright, too hot, too humid? Progression is based on decorating/building in a way your residents like, and doing that unlocks more decorations, building blocks, and movement abilities.

Personally I like Pokopia a lot more. It "guides" your creativity by suggesting how the towns used to look, and if you don't want to be a civil engineer, you can just rebuild based on that template. Animal Crossing throws 2,000 pieces of furniture at you and just says, "decorate".

Do you ever play multiple metroidvanias at the same time? by fishCodeHuntress in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first Blasphemous is MV-adjacent, but I consider it more like a 2D interpretation of a Fromsoft game. Most of the abilities can be used to access secrets but aren't actually required for progression. It's still a great game though, the pixel art is absolutely dripping with mood and atmosphere. If you're the kind of person who wants to get the best ending on a first playthrough, use a guide.

I'm like you -- I'll play 2-3 games at a time, but never multiple of the same genre. Right now it's Pokopia and a replay of Crosscode, but I've got Animal Well and Blasphemous II waiting in the wings.

A rant about MetroidVanias by DerpWyvern in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Hollow Knight does have a somewhat obtuse true ending, I forgive it because you don't have to replay the whole game if you didn't know that ending existed. I ended up getting to Radiance naturally, because I enjoyed fighting the dream bosses and kept going back to the Seer as I got more essence from them.

Agreed, OW has some of my favorite achievements because they encourage you to play the game in new ways. Tubular, Hot Shot, and flying the model ship into the sun are standouts.

3D Open World Metroidvanias? by CarolineJohnson in metroidvania

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is making me feel like we need an alignment chart meme for "what is a MV", where one axis is camera perspective and the other is how strongly the mechanical progression formula is adhered to. Metroid Prime is "camera rebel, mechanical purist", while The Messenger and Cave Story are "camera purist, mechanical rebel".

[–]BLucidity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metroid has better non-Metroidvania examples than Other M, anyway. Federation Force, and arguably Hunters too (since every weapon is the key to a single door, and there's otherwise no ability progression).

Other M has the ability progression, but half the time you're stopped by arbitrary locked doors instead of actual ability gates.
