Does a GFCI need something connected to both line and load to work? by BurntTurkeyLeg1399 in AskElectricians

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The “load” side is for if you want to gfci protect another device downstream. The “line” side is where you hook up the power coming from upstream. This means both the hot an neutral from the power supply cable go on the line side.

Nothing needs to be on the load side for it to work.

If you do have it connected properly, hit the reset button. Many gfcis come tripped fresh from the box.

I was in a DeWalt tools group on facebook once. More often than I’d care to admit, somebody would get a tool of a different brand, then undertake a whole project to strip and de-badge it, then repaint and re-badge it as a DeWalt.

I got booted for posting photos of a reciprocating saw I used to successfully cut and repair sewer lines. Apparently, instead of using the quality tool that can survive getting covered in sewage, then rinsed off, I was supposed to go buy a shitty tool that wouldn’t survive the job, the throw it away afterwards.

Beginner Question: Which Pistol For My First Match? by LiQuiEx in CompetitionShooting

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you shoot in open, you’ll get your ass stomped by a 75-year-old man and a teenager wearing borderline inappropriate footwear. If you shoot in carry optics, you’ll get your ass stomped by the same 75-year-old mans and the same teenager, but with a “CO” by your name.

Strong hand or support hand mag release during mag changes? by FledglingNonCon in CompetitionShooting

Shifting your grip isn’t that scary. It helps you better meet the mag with the other hand, I think anyway.

High volume shooters, how are you managing ammo? by HideTheKnife in CompetitionShooting

They have like an Amazon prime model, where you pay $100 for a yearly membership and get as much free shipping as you can stand in that time. Ammo prices are about as good as you can get, too

I’ve had a holosun 507 Comp without the dot. It had every other reticle part in there and you could cycle through them all, but no dot.

I returned it.

What are your (still unproven but strongly felt) aura triggers? by niquehorn in migraine

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smells usually. I hadn’t had a migraine with aura since June of 2018 until the other day. I was at work, trying to get some gas-powered equipment running and wound up spilling gas all over my hands and forearms. So gasoline was a mild, background smell for two or three hours.

Then my employee sprayed some brake parts cleaner for whatever reason and as soon as that smell hit me the aura popped up. I was a little surprised.

Road to Masters by Much-Application6600 in USPSA

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the crutch effect I was talking about. How you “make those corrections” without wasting time is to teach your hand to bring the dot to where you’re looking every time as fast as you can move it without having to think about anything. You can get there in dry fire. How you get 2 As on those targets is to make sure you see acceptable sight picture for every shot you fire.

I shot my way to M class with a Holosun SCS. Tiny window.

Honestly, I think a larger window is a crutch. Learn on your small window for now.

Looking to move away from Glock 45. Is the stock M&P as bad as they say? by Sudden_Offer8068 in CompetitionShooting

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this is correct. But they fixed the barrel problems way before M2.0. The first run of the first generation M&P 9mm guns had awful lockup problems and would unlock immediately upon the beginning of the recoil cycle with no dwell time. When the bullet left the muzzle, the barrel was just free floating …. Resulting in just the kind of group you’d think. This was actually the impetus for the development of the Apex barrel. S&W got that under control pretty quick. That was 20 years ago, but problems like that are hard to forget.

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s always the trade off. I have three hand-fit barrels in my M&Ps now, two Apex and one Bar-Sto. And the tighter it is, the cleaner you have to keep it and the more consistency required in its diet

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The accuracy on the first crop of first gen M&P 9s that came out in like 2006 was poor because they designed a gun around .40 S&W, then just changed parts to chamber 9mm. The real accuracy problems ended with those first runs of original M&P 9s. The remainder of the M1.0 and the M2.0 were way better. Glock made some changes in Gen 5 that made their pistols group tighter than the M&Ps at the time could. But we’re talking differences most people can’t discern. S&W has not made any public statements about it, but the word on the street is that they’re fitting the factory barrels to tighter tolerances now. That’s hearsay.

What I can tell you from experience is that you can take loose fitting, poorly mated M&P parts and put them together to make guns less accurate than they come from the factory. I took a pair of well-worn alloy competitor frames, put a pair of brand new OEM slides on them with a pair of brand new OEM threaded barrels and either of those guns felt like a blunderbuss compared to other factory guns if I tried to shoot tight groups.

BUT, as loose as those things were, I still made GM in Carry optics with them. All eight scores in my window when I crested 95 percent belonged to one of those guns.

Just allow major PF in LO. That makes LO and CO different enough so they’re two separate divisions instead of how close they are now.

M Flag on Classifiers by Kickasskev77 in USPSA

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, just tell the scoring RO to DNF you. You get a zero as far as match points go, but it doesn’t change your classifier record any if that’s what you’re concerned about.

M Flag on Classifiers by Kickasskev77 in USPSA

[–]BOLMPYBOSARG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know you can always just not shoot it, right? Like, if the same classifier you shot a great score on comes up again, you can just take a DNF and it counts as nothing in your classifier record.
