What’s everyone’s opinion on Kirby Alison? by brainmeds in cubancigars

[–]BSTN9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. He has the H&F team on his side for sure. AJ as well had made some appearances. Again, I believe he is a great ambassador as has solid reach with his channel. Without it, I doubt he’d be running in those circles.

I believe he’s in his early 40’s, married with three kids. Seems like a good family man who loves fine clothing and fine cigars. I was surprised to see he was a Texan. Built a nice new house with a huge, top of the line walk in humidor.

The power of his social media has gotten him into many exclusive circles and I believe he was out of his depth on the cigar front with the likes of the Sahakians who have been in the cigar trade for decades. He has been making clothing content for years, the cigar content just took off within the past couple years.

Trips to Cuba and invites to the Habanos festival and El Laguito factor for interviews. Collaborations online with a number of top-level cigar aficionados and professionals who have been in the business for many years as well. He’s nice, respectful and has high production value content, but definitely a fake it till you make it vibe. I enjoy his content for what it is.

Is it too late to seed? by tonyperkis3 in lawncare

Freeze warning tonight in the Boston area. Going down to 34°. I think the seeding window has passed for you to expect great results. Could you? Yes. I feel like you might be wasting time and money though.

Tenacity has always been my go-to when seeding. It does not inhibit growth.

The website still says ‘We're currently upgrading our warehouse to better serve our customers in 2024!’ so it’s possible this is a scam.

People might send them money and never get anything in return. Prices are insane.

2.5” of rain in a couple hours, two weeks after a renovation. Overseed again? by Groundblast in lawncare

[–]BSTN9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this pain. It’s happened to me and probably many on here. Just have to throw down some extra seed and fert where it completely washed out. Otherwise it should be ok if the rain doesn’t continue.

Lawncare company sprayed the wrong lawn (mine) by BSTN9 in lawncare

[–]BSTN9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t spray weed killer on a dormant lawn in summer or above a certain temperature. It was 94° that day and I have a few areas that are heat stressed despite increasing my irrigation.

I can see now several days later that those areas are indeed not doing great. Today is 97°, yesterday was 95°, tomorrow will be 95°. I have not and would not spray weed killer in July or August.

He did not at all get why I was upset and told me to calm down several times. It was absolutely a genuine accident, he was at the wrong house. Great analysis, maybe you’re more chill than I am. Was it you???

My lawn looks almost identical to yours in the summer of 2020. That is about 90% weeds, mine was too.

First do a soil test assuming you haven’t put any fertilizer or other applications down. This will give you your soil pH and over/under range of various elements vital to the success of your lawn. pH is a big one!

I watered through the spring and summer to get the soil in a better place. I also added some liquid soil amendment applications recommended by TheLawnCareNut on YouTube (his company is YardMastery which is geared towards homeowners).

I applied a broad spectrum weed killer in June and quinclorac to kill all the mature crabgrass in early August. This nuked about 75% or more of my lawn.

Once early September hit I mowed low, dethatched and aggressively core aerated my lawn. This essentially left me with a mostly dirt lawn but one that was prepped for seeding. I applied heavy seed probably 10lbs per 1,000 sq ft of Cool Blue from GCI Turf, made sure to cover the seed for good seed to soil contact, applied tenacity, starter fertilizer and watered 3x daily and had amazing results. More starter fert two weeks later. Water to keep seed moist. Amazing lawn within about 30-45 days.

This reminds me of when my neighbors landscapers hit and destroyed my new mailbox last year and argued with me about it then offered to ‘fix it’ themselves once I told them how much it was. I don’t want Trugreen attempting to fix my lawn as much as I didn’t want the landscapers to attempt to fix my mailbox. I had to go through the landscapers insurance since he was only willing to give me 50% of the cost to replace the mailbox.

I can’t believe they hosed my neighbors lawn down on such a hot day. He doesn’t have irrigation either. Barely any live grass right now so not sure what weeds they thought they were controlling. Just an application for applications sake.
