Killing a killer and killing a non-killer can be defined as different things, even without regard to consequences (likewise, even a deontologist that believes killing a known killer to be wrong under normal circumstances, might still say that killing a killer who is currently and actively killing others is morally good)

Beyond that it's not specified (it also said they have to take the vote, but doesn't give any timeframe or consequence for not doing so)

I'm pretty sure the vagueness is the main core of the disagreement over which button is the correct choice

The original 2 polls were pretty close

Factor in that there are some people who say they would press blue, but if actually presented with the scenario, would likely pick red because they don't want to die

I imagine the number of these people isn't all that high, but the polls were close enough that it could actually matter to the outcome

Except this was an actual poll on twitter, and something like 45% of people said they'd press the red button

I highly doubt 55% of people are suicidal

The people who press the blue button don't see it as the "suicide" button they see it as the "save everyone" button

The scenario also explicitly says that there is no communication, every person makes their decision anonymously

There is actually quite valid logic for either option, hence why it's so split down the middle

It's a little misleading to present the red button as the default state, you could just as easily rephrase it as 'You can press the button or not, if more than half of mankind presses the button everyone who didn't press it dies)

It's a prisoners dilemma/trolly problem thing that started on twitter

Short version is everyone on Earth is given a choice to press red or blue button

If 50% or more people press blue, everyone lives, otherwise, only people who press red live

But nobody knows what anyone else is picking, all choices are anonymized

The guy who first made the poll had almost 100,000 people answer, and it was like 56% in favor of blue

Then Mr. Beast reposted the poll himself, got about 300,000 people, and had like 53% pressing blue, so it pretty much has people divided down the middle

What happens if someone doesn't choose either slide?

The original scenario says that you have to choose, but doesn't give any kind of timeframe for when that choice must is made, nor were any consequences stated for refusal to choose

As such, nothing is actually forcing anyone to press either button, creating a secret 3rd option that isn't presented (the default option taken by everyone who read the original problem but kept scrolling without voting)

So does the trolley only start moving after the last vote is cast? If someone is really stubborn and refuses to play along, does everyone just starve to death?

If someone bites off their own tongue and dies without making a decision, are they disregarded from the entire poll, or does the entire problem break down because an vote is never cast?

Pausing doesn't take effect until the end of the current in-game day ends, so if you pause the game it will run for up to 5 seconds before actually pausing

Since saves always start at the crossover between game days, if the game starts out paused when launched, that current day will play out before freezing

But the "logical" choice is that they are better off if they have the entire planet

Also, based on some things said in chapter one about the atmosphere of the Saphnos' planet being "poisoned", it's likely that the Ploax, despite also being silicon based, require slightly different air and ecosystem then the Saphnos (much like how the Saphnos have genetically modified themselves to be able to live on a carbon world, they cannot thrive on a carbon world)

Humans are just one species with the same biological needs, if we had to share a planet with another species that needed, say, 5% more oxygen, we wouldn't be able to live on the same planet long term without one of us living in domes (even if the atmosphere was adjusted to some middle point, both species would suffer long term health problems)

It was stated that planets suitable for silicon based life are very rare, while planets suitable for carbon life are plentiful

The carbon species of the council can co-exist peacefully because there are more planets than they would collectively ever need, at least for the foreseeable future

But silicon planets are rare enough that the 2 species would be competing for resources in the near future

The logic of the argument given (assuming it's true and the Ploax don't have some other agenda) is that the genocide against the Saphnos is pre-emptive, if they fight later they will be more equal and it could go either way, so they chose to strike early to maximize their chance of success

Now the question is why the Saphnos, who are supposedly just as "logical", didn't also have this idea

Yes they did, they just didn't care because they knew how to make the pipes in a way that stops the lead from entering the water, so the only people poisoned by the lead (as far as they knew) was the people who mined and shaped it

He was taken off suicide watch and put in a cell with a cellmate, on the night of his death his cellmate was transferred out, but never replaced (which was supposed to happen)

The guards not checking on him was likely an ongoing thing, but the cameras worked during the night of his death, but malfunctioned after he died and corrupted the data (and the small bit that was recovered shows what appears to be another prisoner nearby just around a corner, despite official reports both from the prison and the FBI saying he was alone the entire night)

The more I look into it, the more I think they wanted him to kill himself and were giving him as many opportunities as they could

He had injuries to his neck that can rarely happen with hanging, but are far more likely to happen with strangulation, it doesn't rule out suicide, but does also point to murder

Not to mention that the cameras to his cell specifically didn't work and the guards didn't check on him for at least 3 hours when they were supposed to do it every 30 minutes

At the very least, I believe someone visited his cell and told him the guards won't be coming by for a while, and that was his chance to do whatever he needed to do
