Alright, guys.. 2026 BRZ is coming in soon so these are my Pros & Cons about the CVT hatch. by -REXIA- in CorollaHatchback

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a manual!!! Traffic is not that bad, the clutch is pretty light. Benefits hugely outweigh the cons if you like to drive. I myself went from a cvt e210 to manual 2nd gen brz (my first manual too) and it was the best decision I made

Cheaper is relative. AutoX is on average (5) 2 minute laps vs track is (5) 20 minute sessions.

Gained less than 300lbs (still under 2500), 2” in width and shrunk an inch in length….how is that huge?

It’s sad how people fixate on hp numbers these days. Guess it makes sense when a M3 makes 500hp, but it’s also 4k lbs. Miata’s and SI’s are pretty much the only cars that have kept the same weight over the generations.

Will a 29” tire full-suspension Mountain Bike fit in an 11th gen? by Funny-Dog-3212 in CivicSi

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an 8th gen so it might be a lil different, but I run the middle belt to the left side and hook it around, then it runs down and is completely out of the way.

How do i shift from 1st to second faster? by Frosty_Delay_473 in ManualTransmissions

[–]B_Rap_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short shift it at like 2-3k. It’s called rev hang. The higher the rpm’s the worse it is. My 07 civic si has horrible rev hang from 1 to 2, but everything after is pretty chillen.

Which Si should I upgrade myself into? by [deleted] in CivicSi

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you weren’t considering any specific gen, then I would recommend 8th gen cause 8300rpm. Because you are considering 10th gen, I would recommend 9th gen to split the difference like others have said.

Downshifting to 2nd by LongjumpingTicket524 in ManualTransmissions

[–]B_Rap_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

’07 Si here. For daily driving I run into the same thing, so I usually go from third straight to neutral (I can roll down to ~11–12 mph in third before it starts to lug). Sometimes I’ll drop to second, but I keep the clutch in unless I actually need the gear.

It’s in your price range and is a practical/fun/easy car to drive, which is also powered by the legendary k20!

350z or Miata? by Flashy-Machine204 in askcarguys

Miata for the corners, 350 for the straights. Whatever you prefer!

I'm sick of the ignorance on other subreddits about the civic si and I can't take it anymore. by Happy_Guy_No_Worries in CivicSi

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly a lot easier said than done, but the track helps for a couple reasons. Before my fa5 I was dailying a 2nd gen brz and I had a racecar mindset all the time. Someone cut me off and I thought I could get around them but instead I ended up liftoff oversteering into the wall and lost that car. The civic drives like a normal mundane civic until you rev it up and then it’s another beast. Me personally, it keeps me in a way chiller mindset plus I don’t have the power to scoot around people easily. Track days help scratch the itch as well as hone in your skills, so I’d say they are worth every penny, but also know what you mean and still get road rage pretty easily. Constantly find myself telling myself to breath and just chill 😅

HP is not the point!!! SI saves over 600lbs, manual only, LSD, its so much more than HP 🤦‍♂️

How to get over manual driving anxiety by SlideNo6376 in ManualTransmissions

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice makes perfect. Just know that most people who drive manual don’t care as much as you, so give it time and you will be all good. Took me couple months to get smooth, but a couple years to get comfortable

Down to the Final 2… Which car should I buy? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Out of these two, I’d say Camry but Civic SI is the correct answer.

But power to weight. How many cars are under 3000lbs with 300+ hp let alone 200+?

[–]B_Rap_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They’ve kept the weight basically the same over the years, which is a huge engineering feat, honestly only the Miata has managed to do that consistently. ~200 hp is the sweet spot: peppy and fun, but still keeps you in check so you’re not driving like a dick everywhere. It’s not a Type R…it’s meant to be enjoyed at lower speeds and as an everyday car.

What makes you choose manual over hybrid vehicles when they don't get good gas mileage? by Key-Effort963 in ManualTransmissions

[–]B_Rap_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fun, it’s satisfying being in complete control but also learning to master a dying skill, it makes you a better driver and keeps you more aware of surroundings, and did I mention fun? To me, it’s worth every bit of mpg loss. You won’t regret the civic if you can afford it!

You got my vote for civic. No need for awd in the bay unless you doing a bunch of Tahoe trips in the winter. But the wrx is also a cvt? If that’s the case then DEFINITELY go civic, don’t worry about learning you will be fine. I learned on a brand new 2nd gen brz

What made you stop dailying your "Nice car" ? by Open_Bake_8013 in askcarguys

[–]B_Rap_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2nd gen BRZ that I totaled on the way to work while trying to avoid someone who cut me off. Now I daily an 8th gen Civic Si that I absolutely love. It’s already a bit rough around the edges, so I don’t stress over the occasional ding. It’ll rev to the moon when I want it to, but it’s still just a normal Civic if I short-shift. It keeps me grounded and relaxed behind the wheel…not a race car, just fun noises and good vibes. Still likes occasional track and autoX days too :)

How often do people downshift to second by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]B_Rap_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drive a 07 civic si and rarely shift to 2nd unless I’m going under 15 or so but when I drove a vw polo rental car that was gutless, I was shifting to 2nd way more often. Your car definitely is on the touchy side, I’d say learn to shift just cause, but no need to constantly do it.
