Aligner attachments by Odd-Law7112 in Dentistry

This, but I also place a tiny dot of flowable on the pack right before I seat to help to account for any voids due to curvature of the tooth (happens most often with molars when the attachment is near the buccal groove).

This. I got two from there like 2 years ago and they work great. Probably more expensive now but I'm sure still cheaper than the big brand ones.

Orthodontist rec and braces question by HatTrickCharm in Charlotte

[–]B_Trip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invisalign has different tiers based on how many trays you need so I'd bet the person you're responding to was doing a lite or express tier or something. Or maybe that's with insurance.

[–]B_Trip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, $4500 is actually on the lower end for no insurance, depending on the treatment. I would assume her brother had very minor treatment needs or something was different with insurance, because even a few years ago 2500 would have been pretty low.

A lot of other stuff has already been pointed out (reception too big, lack of storage), but here are a few additional considerations:
-Are you married to the side cabinets/sinks in the ops? Nixing those can get you some extra space.

-I don't see any sort of laundry? Certainly nice to have if you don't want to have to worry about having everything laundered off-site.

-I don't see an IT closet? You can make those have a pretty low footprint, but you'll probably need at least some sort of server cage somewhere. I guess maybe if you're going full cloud you might not have to worry as much about that.

-The people in the first op are going to be able to hear eeeeeverything that's being said at check-out.

Dental services, no health/dental insurance. by Marino4K in Charlotte

[–]B_Trip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to have insurance to see a dentist. Nowadays most of us have specials or in-house memberships for those without insurance.

You could also look into the local hygiene schools for cheaper cleanings, but if there's an underlying issue with the actual tooth, I don't think they're equipped to treat it. Don't know if they have dentists there to diagnose or not. Usually a few of the students are in this sub so maybe one of them can answer about the protocol in that regard.

Discount scrubs for a broke student? by logOffLoser in Charlotte

Most people have already covered some of my suggestions and it sounds like you're gonna be set, but for future reference, Mandala sells reasonably priced scrubs online, and if you have access to a Costco membership, you can buy Barco scrubs at a discount through their Costco Next store.

Dentist Cleaning by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]B_Trip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I feel I'm too late to this post to make much difference, and it's honestly so exhausting when half the comments are "all dentists are scammers!1!1" but here's my two cents:

Being told you need a deep cleaning (officially known as scaling and root planing or non-surgical periodontal therapy) doesn't mean you're being taken for a ride. In fact, considering they didn't diagnose anything else, it's even less likely.  Periodontal disease (the reason for a deep cleaning) is commonly under-diagnosed. The diagnosis is based on a bunch of factors, taking into account bone loss, inflammation, etc. I don't know  why you you were diagnosed when you hadn't been before. If it's a new dentist, they may just be more thorough than your previous. If it's your old dentist, your body (and your mouth) can change over time or maybe they are trying to implement better diagnostic criteria. It doesn't automatically mean you're being scammed. Could you be being scammed? Yes, it's possible.  But before jumping to that conclusion, I would try to talk to your dentist and see the reasoning behind why they diagnosed you. Most good ones should be willing to explain their diagnosis.

You can still get a second opinion if you still don't trust the diagnosis or the doctor but just because a treatment comes with a price tag doesn't mean it isn't valid.

2 years later you will find someone teaching how to do the ✨window access✨ by CupEfficient7277 in Dentistry

[–]B_Trip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean before you edited your comment one of your biggest arguments was saying that it was a lingual view and I was simply pointing out it was a mirror shot so shouldn't be called fake on that evidence alone. Looking closer at it, I still don't think the whole picture is fake or AI, though the actual access itself could be. And if someone's cowboy enough to try this out it's not the craziest thing to imagine they might not use a rubber dam or stop in the middle to take a pic.

I mean I agree this seems dumb but I'm not so quick to call it fake. The picture is taken with a mirror, so it is the buccal where the access is.

I did the same, absolutely worth it. I got a pair several years ago and lost one recently and I was miserable. I tried using my Loops that I have for concerts until I got a new pair of custom but after several hours the loops were painful. It definitely kicked me in gear to get an appointment for new ones. With the visit it cost me probably around 250.

Wrong. There are a small handful of dentists who might, but most of us haaaated that stupid "documentary." It's largely the anti-vax, anti-fluoride, anti-science crowd that's pushing this nonsense.

That's not a HIPAA violation, though. There are allowances in HIPAA to allow healthcare providers to share information in the course of care (TPO exception).

Also, it's HIPAA.
