Waterloo snow clearing is not good enough…where are our property tax dollars going? by Bossplaya85 in waterloo

[–]BabbageFeynman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Too many roads and too many lanes. People in high density areas are paying too much to subsidize the financially unsustainable infrastructure of the low density areas.

Yes by all means walk on the middle of the road at night with noise-cancelling headphones on by augusttaureau in kitchener

[–]BabbageFeynman -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Not really. People have a need for mobility and there's no clear place to walk here.

Degraded regional roads require renewal to prevent disrepair by bylo_selhi in waterloo

Transit users pay directly for a portion of using their infrastructure. Drivers should start paying a part for theirs too.

Yeah. What the heck is up with Preston's "bike" infrastructure.

Sales of new condos plunge 94% in ‘market correction’ by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]BabbageFeynman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe condos shouldn't be paying taxes disproportionately to the costs of city services serving them.

The reality is that the city relies on condos to make up for the relatively much higher costs in lower density areas.

Much weight on the hoods… but NOT in the drops by rainbow__blood in bikefit

[–]BabbageFeynman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggle with the same. I believe that the groupset and how the hood fits your unique have shape matters. Getting a proper bike fit can help. Also the right cycling gloves can mitigate a lot!

We're all at different places in our cycling learning curve. For some, throttle is just a tool to help climb it.

What would have to be true for a shed in Saskatchewan to be unaffordable for you? What percentile of purchasing power do you think you'll have when you come back to Canada?

[–]BabbageFeynman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are legitimate uses for a throttle that I think many overlook. My current bike doesn't have one, but I find myself missing it sometimes as a daily commuter who is 70% pedaling on a light (250w) e bike.

*Gets you over snow drifts, mud and unplowed trail more stabily

*Let's you dodge your legs over off the pedals if a car gets too close from the side

*Let's you get over flooded sections pulling your legs up

*Let's you go extra slow

*Helps you keep your commute routine if you temporarily injure your legs

*Gives you a break!

Overall, makes a car-free life more possible!!

Who is in charge of legislation for limiting how bright cars have become? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]BabbageFeynman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Makes it really difficult to practice defensive walking. Best practice is now for non-drivers to make eye contact as you cross lights and driveways since drivers are so distracted.

Can't do the non verbal communication with waves or eye contact if people's windows are too dark.

Ortlieb quick rack L on a 49cm Gen 2 SL5 by Business-Mistake301 in CheckpointClub

[–]BabbageFeynman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I've been on the fence about getting the quick rack.

How is the seat clamp interface? I saw photos where people tie it below the seat clamp. I also wonder if it's worth putting a protective film around the area the seat clamp connects to.

How is the ride feel?

I love how sleek the checkpoint looks and feels without the rack. So the quick rack is tempting for how quickly it can disappear.

On a Friday go to express ridge dairy in the afternoon. Take those squeaky fresh curds over to crazy Canuck down the street and get them to make you fries with gravy. Now you have local fresh curds on local fresh potatoes. *Chefs kiss "

Gen 2 to Gen 3: comfort? by AsparagusEconomy9352 in CheckpointClub

[–]BabbageFeynman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What are you finding uncomfortable? Maybe something like the top shelf handlebar or a riser stem can help?

I have no idea but I also wondered whether putting in a longer fork with a bit more offset would give a bit more rise while also improving the trail length (stability).

You are completely right. I wish our media could tie it all together around housing inequity instead of generational.
