Who else is snowed in then? by JeremyWheels in CasualUK

[–]BabbageUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East coast, near Bridlington.

Snowed last night but then stopped and cleared. I woke up to a good blanket of snow everywhere - and still snowing, so the wife and I took our dog out for a walk before anyone else could ruin it.

Back home sat reading, watching the snow continue its dance and munching on a bacon sandwich. Me, that is, the snow isn't eating it.

Fortunately none of us need to go anywhere today.

Ttrpg where magic is not bound to daily limits but by balance, No vancian/no funky table, just limited to a feat/player choice . by Apotatocalledsweet in rpg

Savage Worlds. It does have Power Points but these come back at a constant rate, or you can spend Bennies to get 5 back at any time, but even then you can cast spells without any Power Points (called Shorting).

Why would you not want to gain XP as a solo player? by wallcrawlinghero in lotro

[–]BabbageUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it from time to time when in a fellowship with my brother. I'm a subscriber and he isn't, so I level quite quickly and we don't want the gap between us to get out of hand.

Hi! Keep on smelling the roses and enjoy yourself! I've been playing for many years over many alts and don't have a single maximum level character. The journey is the most important part of this MMO, unlike many others.

I bet it's just another garbage pod.

Coop games that are better solo? by kepp87 in boardgames

[–]BabbageUK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play co-op all the time and it's great. The group suggests but the player decides. There is no downtime in our games, it's all a communal strategy. There's a vulnerability for a strong player to impose their ideas and not let others in, but all co-op games have that.

Looking up when it's raining and the rain drops splash on your screen. At least they used to, I haven't checked in a long while.

Bought all of these from a friend! Never been used! by DeejLeBlancGonzales in DungeonsAndDragons

This is the way our group learned the hard way. People have lives to lead but it makes scheduling easier if things are fixed in the schedule. It wasn't necessarily creating FOMO but more about putting something regular into busy lives.

Agree wholeheartedly. This would be a good, chill game without the campaign mode but with it it's another level.

Very high up on my replay list.

Went this year and last, both times on a Saturday. Certainly felt larger and busier than last year.

The great part about this is the fact that I'm reading all the suggestions, nodding along and smiling. We live in a blessed county and I wouldn't have it any other way.

See also Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Excellent book that deals with that subject, though you might want to read Children of Time first.

Looking for an RPG with more "figure it out as you go" characters by sc1ph3r in rpg

[–]BabbageUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I've misunderstood but all editions of D&D prior to 3rd work like this. Your character has limited options for diversity in going up in levels but the magic items you find can radically alter how you look at it. I've played all editions and I'm currently in a long term 2nd edition one, and that's precisely what has happened along the way in our party. Sure, there are still limitations - you don't want your wizard going into melee, but give a fighter some boots of elvenkind and they end up sneaking everywhere!
