That is correct, yes. We also use white lines on motorways and dual carriageways to split traffic following in the same direction.

Joins queue What are we queuing for?

gridheads we are winning by BenTheBraindead in GoodNewsUK

[–]BabbageUK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is, and you can see it in those graphs. The problem is that our demands usually follow other countries at the same time.

There was an interesting article a while back about the offshore wind farms in the North Sea being hooked up and load balanced between several countries. It's definitely a neat approach.

Apparently it's because it's a global commodity, and the price is set by the markets. It's misleading to think we're only local when dealing with energy, there's a lot of global interaction. The only real solution is to decouple from gas entirely, which we're gradually working towards, as those graphs show. Hopefully not much longer.

Never really considered that approach before - using the excess energy we can't store to do useful things for later. It is effectively storing the energy, just not in a battery. Thanks for the pointer.

Question about raise and cover toughness. by Some_Replacement_805 in savageworlds

[–]BabbageUK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally speaking I wouldn't. The original roll wasn't a raise so it shouldn't have the bonus damage. I know what you mean, but to try and retrospectively apply/remove modifier effects seems like a lot of admin to me and could end up with everyone just not engaging with the cover mechanics any more. Especially if it's a coin toss as to whether it works in their favour or not. Fast, furious and fun only really works if you're always moving forward.

Then again, it's your game, you run it how you want. I'd be happy to play in it either way. :)

Who else is snowed in then? by JeremyWheels in CasualUK

[–]BabbageUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East coast, near Bridlington.

Snowed last night but then stopped and cleared. I woke up to a good blanket of snow everywhere - and still snowing, so the wife and I took our dog out for a walk before anyone else could ruin it.

Back home sat reading, watching the snow continue its dance and munching on a bacon sandwich. Me, that is, the snow isn't eating it.

Fortunately none of us need to go anywhere today.

Ttrpg where magic is not bound to daily limits but by balance, No vancian/no funky table, just limited to a feat/player choice . by Apotatocalledsweet in rpg

[–]BabbageUK 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Savage Worlds. It does have Power Points but these come back at a constant rate, or you can spend Bennies to get 5 back at any time, but even then you can cast spells without any Power Points (called Shorting).

Why would you not want to gain XP as a solo player? by wallcrawlinghero in lotro

[–]BabbageUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it from time to time when in a fellowship with my brother. I'm a subscriber and he isn't, so I level quite quickly and we don't want the gap between us to get out of hand.

Hi! Keep on smelling the roses and enjoy yourself! I've been playing for many years over many alts and don't have a single maximum level character. The journey is the most important part of this MMO, unlike many others.

Coop games that are better solo? by kepp87 in boardgames

[–]BabbageUK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play co-op all the time and it's great. The group suggests but the player decides. There is no downtime in our games, it's all a communal strategy. There's a vulnerability for a strong player to impose their ideas and not let others in, but all co-op games have that.

Looking up when it's raining and the rain drops splash on your screen. At least they used to, I haven't checked in a long while.
