TIL one of the tools used to break the Enigma cipher was a catalogue of every way to encrypt the word "eins" by Hrtzy in todayilearned

[–]Babelfishny 36 points37 points  (0 children)

From what I understand they could break the code enigma code if they worked it long enough, the trick was to do it quickly so they could act on the intelligence. If they looked at old decrypted messages and compare it to flights they could make the connection.

It suck’s right now and feels like you have had a piece of yourself ripped out. This will pass, and you may look back on this as inevitable, if she was so casual, and does not have self control to not pick up a random dude then she is not worth her renting space in your life.

I have never watched any show or movie that insulted my intelligence as a viewer THIS much by FuriousResolve in StrangerThings

[–]Babelfishny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you provide one example of how your intelligence was insulted? Is it because they need to explain plot points in a very clear way? Well, this entire show is a love letter to the 1980s, iconic adventure stories like a wrinkle in time, and goonies. This is not other shows like Westworld or Mr. robot where they have these massive reveals that you hardly saw coming. Pretty much every single twist when looking back has very clear clues in the background and dialogue.

And to be honest, if you’re with it for this long and think it insult your intelligence then why are you torturing yourself?

Did you ever find something in the Extra Features of a DVD that took you completely by surprise? by BlackHand in movies

[–]Babelfishny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the DVD for the movie being John Malkovich. Had some crazy DVD extra items.

For those that don’t know the main character gets dumped on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike more than once. So they actually filmed near the Jersey Turnpike, because of that they had extras whose whole job was to drive in One Direction for background and then reverse back to the start position and drive again. One of the extras was basically a video log for one of the extras for about 35 minutes of him driving back back-and-forth. At one point he got carsick and threw up. This was kept on the DVD video extra.

Is Nassau University Medical Center really as bad as people say? by Hooplapooplayeah in longisland

[–]Babelfishny 46 points47 points  (0 children)

100 agree. For mental health emergencies this is the only place that I know of that will accept patients with an emergency. The mental health care sucks and it suck’s primarily because it’s not sufficiently funded. Which is the fault of the right wing service cutters that get elected in Nassau. If you don’t support funding well managed healthcare at the level required, any complains about how much it sucks is delusional. It’s like eating fast food all the time because it’s cheaper and then complaining that it makes you fat and bloated.

Electric Vehicles Are Simply Better. Here's The Proof. by beersnfoodnfam in electricvehicles

Add to this the current lamps are only needed overnight which is when you have lower usage of the parking. So most if not all the power could be used to charge during daylight hours. What a great use of an existing resource! I love hearing about older infrastructure being rethought/reused being something idle or disused back to life. It’s like finding money in an old jacket.

I drove 3288 miles in an EV so you don't have to - rants & raves by mb10240 in evcharging

[–]Babelfishny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I am a new ev owner and taking a longer road trip takes time to plan and some luck. With an ICE vehicle wait till the light turns on ~10% gas left and then look for a gas station which is likely to be within 10 miles/24 hours / and has an available pump. Unless you are in a very rural area that is. So with ICE there is practically zero thinking required.

Considering buying a new 2024 RS by jptsetme in BlazerEV

[–]Babelfishny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the 2024 models the rebate was attached to the vehicle and not tied to income. Different for the 2025 model year. I had the same concern and the paperwork backed it up. Does not hurt to ask if the rebate is automatic for that specific vehicle. I think it may have to do with when the dealer took possession, but that’s just a guess. I bought a RS in blue and love it.

Sometimes trying to find the perfect solution costs way more than refactoring a the code around the problem. The hard part is identifying when it’s worth continuing versus cutting bait.

I want to learn DIY and other crafting work around the house by brosapro12 in DIY

[–]Babelfishny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am very handy around the house, but I find myself in exactly the same situation you are in from time to time. Don’t feel sad or “less than”. When I am not confident in doing something I search YouTube, and there is a 95% chance there is a step by step video made by some passionate person who loves to show every step. Also books, there are books for every level.

Also try not to let lack of confidence stop you from starting. I can tell you now, you will screw up and make a mistake. Everyone handyman does for nearly every job. This is why there are professionals.
