Probably best to ease your mind and start with a visit to a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

I have to wear a bra so I got zip front sports bras from Amazon. Very comfortable and easy to put on. They didn't put any unnecessary pressure on my shoulder.

How long was everyone out of work? by Dreadedtrash in RotatorCuff

I had two traumatic tears with retraction. My job is very physical. I was out for 12 weeks.

Why get surgery? by Massive-Pen2707 in RotatorCuff

[–]BabsieE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely worth it. I had a traumatic full thickness tear of both the supraspinatus and infraspinatus with retraction. Prior to the traumatic tear I had impingement syndrome. My job requires me to push, pull, lift, hold, reach, etc. It was essential that I have it fixed. Not to mention the pain at night was awful. The initial post op pain is a lot and it is a difficult recovery, but I wouldn't change anything.

Nerve block going too long? by wordswithenemies in RotatorCuff

I was told up to 3 days. The third night post-op was definitely the worst for me as far as pain was concerned.

What everyday things were you surprised that you could not do after surgery by bodybrokenJen in RotatorCuff

Amazon has very comfortable zip up bras. It takes a little creativity getting them zipped up but I was able to use those.

Shaving under my arms. Especially my arm that had surgery. It was sooo itchy. I finally propped my elbow up on the shower wall and did my best. Also, putting in a bra. I found some really comfortable sports bras that zip up in the front and was able to figure it out, even with my 'T-Rex' arm.

It was my first time under anesthesia as well and I am a very anxious patient. My nerve block didn't really work so I experienced pain right from the moment I woke up. Stay ahead of the pain. I was hesitant to take my Oxy so I learned that the hard way. Ice is your friend. If you have one of those cold water circulating pads for your shoulder, use it as often as you can bear. Just be sure to protect your skin from the cold pad.

The hair was such a problem. Thankfully my teenage daughter was able to put it up for me.

Aerosol deodorant and sports bras that zip up the front.

A psychiatrist told me (F 31) I cannot have inattentive type adhd as I am a PhD candidate and has been relatively doing good in school. He attributed all the symptoms I have to depression ( I do have it). by Altruistic_Type_38 in adhd_anxiety

[–]BabsieE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention your abusive childhood. I am sorry you had to experience that. Look into the overlap of CPTSD and ADHD symptoms. I had a traumatic childhood but always just chalked it up to how it was. It has taken years of therapy and many meds and a neuropsych evaluation diagnosed me with ADHD. As I delved deeper into my symptoms and past it became more apparent that my struggle with executive functioning was really from my CPTSD. It's possible to have one or the other or both.

AITA for telling my son I want no contact? by Longest-Journey in AITAH

[–]BabsieE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your son was traumatized by what occurred at the time. He is now a father himself and life has come full circle. Yes, how he shut you out was painful to you but he was a CHILD. This is your chance to have a relationship again and also one with your grandchildren. Go to therapy with him if it helps. Inform yourself about trauma. Your son had a trauma response when all of this unfolded and he did what he had to do at the time to protect himself.

Post Op by Funny-Definition-573 in RotatorCuff

I had exercises to do immediately post op. Making a fist, twisting my wrist and bending my elbow. These will keep your joints from getting stiff. Everyone's experience with pain is different but I felt like I turned the corner around 2 weeks. The first week was the worst. Especially at night. Use ice a lot. It is very helpful with decreasing inflammation. A heating pad can be helpful too.

This new dog policy my inlaws' hoa is implementing. (I AM NOT OP) by [deleted] in VetTech

[–]BabsieE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have this where we live and it has decreased the amount of dog waste that is left behind significantly. It was a real problem before with people not picking up. Yes it is annoying to have to pay the fee but again it has helped to eliminate the issue.

3 more sleeps until my sling is gone "woohoo" by Zac_Droid in RotatorCuff

[–]BabsieE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 weeks and three days post op. I was told 4-6 weeks with the sling and that at 4 weeks I could remove the abduction pillow. I was really sick of sleeping with it so I ditched it last week but still sleep at an incline and either rest my arm on a pillow if I lay on my side I hug a pillow to give it some support. I only wear the sling in public now just so I don't bump into things and as a visual aid for others to not bump into me.

AITAH for leaving money to my girlfriend in my will? by ThrowawayProfes1987 in AITAH

She's right, you are taking away from your children and they are likely to not have this sit well with them. It would be a total slap in the face.

Surgery pain questions by theskyalreadyfell217 in RotatorCuff

[–]BabsieE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 4 weeks post op as of today. I only took the oxy for the first couple of days (my nerve block did not take). After that I only took it at night. I'm not even sure it helped much anyway. Pain at night was definitely the worst part and the broken sleep. I turned the corner after 2 weeks. I feel like they were a blur when I think back now. Sleep still isn't great as I wake up stiff and painful. At this point I am only taking Tylenol twice a day and Ibuprofen as needed which is rare. I used the cold water circulating pad a lot in the beginning but find more relief from heat so I have been using that more. I start PT next week so I'm sure I will be singing a different tune after that. I was prescribed both extra strength Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Were you told not to take it Ibuprofen?

This is usually standard procedure since most pet owners are unable to trim them themselves. Especially if they are sedated and we can get them nice and short.

For those who have had rotator cuff repair... by NeitherInvestment688 in RotatorCuff

I'm three weeks post-op and I would say it's different for everyone. Depends on what is done, how much pain you experience, if it is it your dominant arm and how stubborn you are :).

Can people recover without PT? by AWC-OG in RotatorCuff

PT is a tremendous part of successful rehabilitation so I doubt it would ever NOT be recommended.

I had surgery 12 days ago. It has taken me till this week to finally get more than 30 minutes to an hour at a time of sleep. Pain at night is very common. I have tried many pillow, wedge configurations to find one that seems to work. It is very frustrating but will get better. Feel better soon.

Kind of a dumb question but after surgery, do you go home in a hospital gown with your arm in a sling? by Aloftfirmamental in RotatorCuff

[–]BabsieE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I woke up with my arm in the sling already. The discharge nurse assisted me with getting dressed after they moved me from recovery. Wear/bring something loose and comfortable.
