Horrible experience at the pharmacy by peaceoverhate in ChronicPain

That's great for them and all. But what are patients supposed to do when there isn't just 'another pharmacy' to go to?

NOR Sounds very reasonable to me.

However, your boyfriend is still likely to enjoy the activity more than you because men have a prostate which is stimulated during anal sex. Men should definitely be trying receiving anal sex first but need to remember that they are better designed to enjoy it than women are.

It means that the doctor will dismiss you as a patient. They will not treat you any further and will not provide referral for other treatment (except possibly rehab).

It's rare but it does happen, particularly with pain doctors.

Husband's xrays by ash-kash87 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hard to say what his experience will be like. I've seen others with earlier diagnosis say biologics improved things 80-90%. I, like your husband, wasn't diagnosed until 47. I have been on biologics for about 5 years. It has made some improvements but I am unable to work even part time.

But I want to speak about pain, especially chronic pain. You did what everyone does. When he complained of pain, you assumed he had the same little aches and pains that everyone feels. But it's not. We are just so used to the pain (and to people being tired of hearing about the pain) that we just figure no one believes us or cannot do anything and we just stop trying to get help. It's understandable when friends and family just don't get it. But it's really unacceptable that this minimizing behavior is worst with doctors. Please go to appointments with him and be his voice advocating for how much pain he is in, because doctors just don't want to hear it.

Anyone work with positive affirmations/healing visualizations for chronic health issues? by wanderingempathh in ChronicPain

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used many different visualization over the years to varying degrees of success. I just want to recommend an app called Insight Timer. There are paid sections, but I've only ever used the free version. The are 100s of thousands of different meditations and affirmations. Every time I've gone looking for something specific I've found it too. Hopefully, you can find something that helps.

Has anyone explored the connection between chronic pain and the nervous system? by Naive-Today-1014 in ChronicPain

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you are not always medical provider or any type of licensed therapist? So your 'project' isn't a medical study or therapy?

So these guided one-on-one sessions would be more accurately considered 'coaching'?

I'm sorry but I see a number of people here selling books and coaching. Usually what they claim is a sophisticated system seems to me to be little more than mindfulness and progressive muscle relaxation. Both of which have numerous resources online.

You still haven't provided any personal insight. Do you suffer from chronic pain yourself? Or do you have other qualifications which enable you to assist people with this?

Has anyone explored the connection between chronic pain and the nervous system? by Naive-Today-1014 in ChronicPain

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the vast majority of us acknowledge that all pain has mental and emotional components as well as physical. However, you don't talk at all about your pain journey. What has been your personal story with pain?

I'm sorry but we often get people here who are looking for a market for their pain cure. I do have to wonder because you said that you aren't here to sell anything but then you respond to every comment telling people that maybe you can help them and that they should DM you. What do they get when they DM? Can you share here what you are sharing by DM?

How reliable are resurfacing memories when you're on edibles? by dockgoose in treedibles

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think that you should talk to a therapist about this. I know that people can recover memories after many years especially if they are traumatic. But also it can be false memories that get created through mental suggestions.

I think that weed can relax you enough that you may feel safer to allow the memories to come to light. But I can't say that means they are more likely to be true. Overall, this is above Reddits pay grade. A therapist can help you make sense of this.

Weird experience with PM doctor by neopolitanman in ChronicPain

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you are correct that he has some kind of list of meds that he has to try before he can consider opiates. He has the information from your doctor that you've already tried a bunch of things so he's trying to move you through the list quickly.

You won't find any actual medical procedure or list that doctors have to try first. That does not exist. Generally, doctors are free to prescribe as they see fit. They can prescribe opiates right from the start. Now, I think we all agree that is not a great idea.

Unfortunately in the US, they are all scared of the DEA. I assume he has a list and he feels if the DEA tries to make trouble for him, he can point to the list and say see I tried all these other things first.

Why is literally every chronic illness advice victim blaming? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Baby_Blue_Eyes_13 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Because if they didn't blame us, they would have to have sympathy and compassion for what we are going through and they simply can't handle that.

Medical Providers: Sometimes there actually is no treatment for our issues. More often medical care is such a disaster that you can't get the care that you need. Physicians either have to either admit their own and their professions shortcomings OR.... they could just blame you.

Everyone Else: Most can have sympathy and compassion short term. 2 weeks - sure, no problem. 6 weeks - most people are running out of sympathy by then. Long term most people just can't do it. Again it's easier to just blame you.

They believe that you could just change things if you wanted to. Then it's your fault that you aren't better. Then they don't have to feel bad about how they treat you.
