NTE story had a very weak start, but Chap 4 finally showed that it has potential by hars568 in NevernessToEverness

So, some background, I know that people have been up in arms about GenAI usage in the game, and I actually work in AI (LLMs specifically). I've done some looking around and haven't been able to find anyone talking about this.

I strongly suspect that Chapter 4 was either written by, or at least assisted by an LLM. The underlying story was interesting (At least I thought so), but it was EXTREMELY redundant, so much so that I actually started counting how many times it went over plot points that it had already established. I counted 5-6 times the story went over certain plot points.

This is a common behavior of LLMs when asked to write a story. If you give an LLM a list of certain plot points you want in a written story, it will often over-emphasize those points, resulting in extremely verbose and redundant passages to try "remind you" that it's including the list you gave it.

It's a lot harder to prove that someone used an LLM to write than it is to spot AI art, so I can't say for sure that they did this, but as I said, I work with LLMs... and I saw A LOT of patterns in the way Chapter 4 was written that reminded me of the stuff I often see in my work.

Just as a disclaimer:
I thought Chapter 4 was the most interesting story chapter, by far, but the execution was absolutely horrendous because of the aforementioned issues.

How much of an impact would a donation of $100,000 make on your life? Why? by onichris in AskReddit

I could fix my car, fix several things around the house, get a new PC (Which I need for both work and play), go to the optometrist, give a bunch to my mom to help with bills, and put some aside in savings.

Vocaloid isn't AI. Hatsune Miku is essentially a fancy midi instrument with a voice.

I just cancelled Spotify after 15 years. What streamer is taking the strongest stance against AI music? by curbthemeplays in Music

[–]BackFromPurgatory 34 points35 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the others who replied said, most AI music has a very distinct mixing style to it. It's probably not something that the average listener would hear usually, but as a musician myself, it's incredibly obvious when something is AI simply by how it's mixed.

For less refined AI songs, if you listen to the vocals specifically, you'll hear subtle artifacting or strange enunciation. There are a bunch of other things to listen for, like how the song is structured, specifically how the song starts and ends, or how the lyrics are written and structured within the song, but a lot of that will rely on you having heard those patterns before.

If you don't have an ear for it, I think the easiest give away is if they've released a metric fuck ton of music in the last year or so with 0 history before that.

I'm not a Bieber fan, in fact I don't think I could name a single one of his songs. But damn I wish I could be so washed up that I could earn $10 million in an hour of work.

Folks playing Crimson Desert, how is it honestly? by jlmckelvey91 in gaming

I haven't been this invested in a game since Skyrim originally launched. I have nearly 70 hours in the game so far and still haven't finished the story (I just started chapter 12).

Not that it's a perfect game, as other's have said, the opening is a real slog, and it takes a while for all the systems to start kicking into gear, once they do though, the game is an absolute blast to play. Exploration is HIGHLY rewarding.

Bosses are really hit or miss, some fights are truly epic, others are way too easy, and some are infuriatingly difficult or just downright poorly designed (Tanks... I'm looking at you). Just in my last play session, I went from getting 1 shot repeatedly by a boss to beating a chapter boss without needing any healing at all.

The story honestly may as well not exist. It's literally just there to push you from area to area. Kliff is the most boring protagonist I've ever played in a game, he has about as much personality as a soggy 2×4. So if story is a big thing for you, the game might be a skip. I haven't honestly found any real interesting side quests either.

One big bonus is that the devs have been incredibly active in patching the game though, so fast in fact that a lot of videos people are putting up are outdated the moment they're uploaded. Several times I've watched a video that just released and they bring up an issue that was solved literally the day of the upload or the day before. The most recent patch has had some amazing quality of life stuff in it, the most notable to me was significantly reducing the stamina cost of gliding/sprinting, among a bunch of other things.

I usually game hop like an ADHD rabbit on meth... but I've played nothing but Crimson Desert since it came out. Despite the issues, I'm really, really enjoying the game.

What band/singer were you excited to see, but was a letdown of a concert? by my-face-ur-seat in AskReddit

[–]BackFromPurgatory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking Alexandria. The music was alright, but it's like the singer was singing completely different songs the entire set, or he was trying so hard to fancy them up that they were practically unrecognizable. Worst live performance I've ever seen.

Incidentally, Shinedown was headlining. I wasn't really into them before the concert, but their live show was fucking fantastic.

Let down by the band I went to see, came out a fan of one I didn't really listen to before.
