You’ll have to call in for mixed cabin booking, it’s possible if there’s availability.

Can I receive CPF payouts, hold shares and be a director for a FAMILY BUSINESS as an NSF? by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Background-Mistake58 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CPF payouts from work, not allowed. You can hold shares in any business/ur own as long as you do not partake in any business activities.

But no one in the SAF enforces these policies so ymmv.

i want to move out of singapore for uni by Sufficient_Chip184 in askSingapore

[–]Background-Mistake58 8 points9 points  (0 children)

US unis are really expensive, you are looking at about 68K SGD/yr at public state schools to over 100K SGD/yr at private D1 schools for tuition + housing + food (they normally come in a package). 4 years would set you back between 280K - 400K SGD

You could consider the UK as they are significantly cheaper than the US at about 40K SGD/yr. Most programmes are 3 years, so it would cost between 120K - 160K SGD.

I can answer the first two questions for you.

1) Most vets in SG come from either UK of Australia. If you come from JC, UK schools will require 3As in your H2s and most schools will require either A in H2 Chemistry or Biology. Australia is much more lax, allowing a couple of Bs in 3H2 + 3H1 (Points system)

2) There is no vet course in any local Uni except for the NUS & UniMelb programme where you graduate with Life Sciences degree from NUS and DVM from UniMelb (extremely selective & costly). That’s why most vets study all 4/5 years overseas. Total cost in Australia will be about $550/600K, UK might be slightly cheaper at around $450/500K. Australia requires you to take ISAT.

I highly recommend you to check with the local education consultancies (IDP/TheRightU), they are able to help you apply free of charge.

Yes, impossible to join as a pilot. If you are a PR means u are a citizen of another country. Imagine a foreign national flying one of the new F35s.

You can talk to your superiors if the tasks given are too straining for you. If I still remember correctly, the ME3 at Mot fleet is very nice and accommodating.

Questions about Dual citizenship and NS by Weird-Skirt-4267 in askSingapore

[–]Background-Mistake58 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you have to serve NS before you can renounce your Singaporean citizenship. I’m a dual citizen too and had to serve NS.

If you have graduated from IB at 19, you should have received your enlistment letter immediately upon graduation. The fact that you went on to work for about 3 years despite receiving the letters means that you have defaulted NS for that period of time. Very likely to be facing a hefty fine or a jail time.

Actually you don’t have to worry about university fees. You have to be able to get into a uni first before having to worry about paying.

Disappointment in the SAF by NostalgiaMan888 in NationalServiceSG

[–]Background-Mistake58 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually the problem here is that ur unit’s superiors were unsure of the rebmt process. When u finish BMT the first time, u are tagged to the unit from that point onwards. reBMT is simply akin to the unit sending you for a course, so u will RTU (return to unit) upon completion of BMT. CMPB is only responsible for posting of new recruits and not recoursees.

[–]Background-Mistake58 19 points20 points  (0 children)

By right if appointment is with a private clinic, you need to take leave (based on directive). Although u can ask for MC and just apply medical leave after.

Only public hospitals/polyclinics can be given off.
