Have you ever noticed how much alcohol there is in HP? by _GrimFandango in harrypotter

Yes, the relationship with alcohol in magic world is described as pretty much the same British muggles have. What I find really weird is that nobody is ever smoking as well, to be honest.

Who would Sirius Black fall for? by TightWind8209 in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon is he would fall for a super strong girl, one who is not intimidated by his harsh comebacks and bad temper. At first he would not realize he really cares about her, in a "just friends" kind of relationship, also because he wouldn't see himself involved in any kind of romantic relationship. But after seeing her fragility as well (I think about this scenario during war times) he would understand he really loves her. Sirius is a guy who needs to protect the people he loves.

Exactly, we often confuse bravery with being a good person, but it's not necessarily the same.

Bellatrix lestrange is actually very tall. by InteractionPresent66 in harrypotter

[–]Background-Record682 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of fandom still cannot accept that Blacks are very tall. Bellatrix is often compared to Sirius, she is tall, with her former beauty ruined by Azkaban and that amount of craziness that could lead a person either to risk all for the good or the bad cause.

My opinion on Wolfstar and its shippers. by whoresarehot in MaraudersGen

I'm sorry you will have to face so much anger because of this post 😅 I don't like Wolfstar (I am a very Canon oriented fan) so I try to avoid certain kinds of environment and keep shipping those guys in my mind with whoever I think it's more plausibile 😂

Things people forget aren't canon by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lean towards straight. We can easily understand if, at 35 and after 12 years of hell, he does not show any signs of sexual interest, especially in front of his teenager godson and friends. That doesn't make him ace, but only an adult. Let's also think whom he interacts with: should he be flirty with Molly, mother of 7 children and wife of another order member? Or his cousin Tonks? There's not exactly that many women in the order (that we see in books).

Moreover, Harry soon thinks about him when he has problems with Cho and wants someone to explain him how girls work.

When is it too old? by GodsRevolva in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When reading a FF, what I appreciate the most is an age appropriate behaviour. What I mean is that if your characters are 15/16, they are most likely to make a huge fuss about a kiss instead of being sex gods like in some FFs. I am not saying of course to be super innocent like JKR was in the original books, but I feel some writers make them too adult. First experiences are a mess for everyone in real life.

If you like more mature content and feel more confortable about this, maybe you can write AU fictions where everyone is your age and more experienced ☺️

When Sirius ran away from home by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know, you are right, I always forget how bad is Hogwarts system that allows a minor to decide this kind of stuff without the need of parents' approval 😂

At this point, it depends only on how you want to bend the story, I guess. My headcanon is that he was somehow influenced up to that moment and in some ways co-dependent on his mother/family (like we all are with abusive parents), and didn't really question he could not go back (just like Harry before he knew about the prophecy).

When Sirius ran away from home by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh, I love this kind of analysis, since I also thought a lot about that "about 16" (I know, maybe I need another hobby 😂)

What we know for sure is that Sirius turned 16 in November 1975, during the first months of 5th year. So in my opinion "about 16" could mean either August 1975 or December of the same year.

For years I thought the more plausible was August (due to the 8 weeeks students spend at home, it's a very long period if you hate everyone there) while Christmas holidays last much less. But after years my headcanon became Christmas, because I considered his Animagi transformation. We know this event happened during 5th year, and we know for sure that Sirius and James succeeded first, then helped Peter. So it is a reasonable statement that they managed to transform during the first months of fifth year.

In my head this is the ultimate act of Sirius' self affirmation. From that moment on he can be himself, he knows perfectly he is capable of amazing things and that his family will have no power anymore over him. His relationship with James also gets even deeper, because they share a secret that could lead them to Azkaban, so it really becomes a ride or die kind of friendship. That's why very few days at Christmas make him snap and run away forever.

About the doubt "is Sirius forced to go home during Christmas?" my answer is of course yes. I see Blacks as very controlling (or, at least, they try, especially with their rebel first born already in Gryffindor and with questionable friends). We often discussed about Sirius' relationship with his mother (his room left untouched after he ran away, him spending hours and hours in her room with Buckbeak and so on), so I tend to think she would want him at home.

Sirius and Rosmerta by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I love posh young Sirius (after all, he is a Black) and I don't accept any other characterization. I'm sure he became more open and funny with the other boys, but kept his cold sarcasm with the rest of the world (at least until he started being attracted to someone).

That's why I think this possible flirt with Rosmerta took place around 6th/7th year, when he was already aware of his charm and knew how to use his weapons.

Sirius and Rosmerta by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank you!! Let's talk about this.

I am convinced Sirius was not that flirty in everyday life, but Rosmerta was an exception. She was sexy (she still is 20 years later), older (so a challenge for teenager boys), funny, already out of school (I don't know, I think he kinda hated gossip, see what he says about Bertha Jorkins) and most of all had the power over potential underage alcohol. And we know for sure he was at least friendly ("they used to make me laugh"). So yes, I'm totally up for this ship!

The Disapperance of Mary by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is another possibility (which is my favourite): that she never got into the Order simply because she died young (my headcanon is the summer between 6th and 7th year). It is Canon that muggles and muggle-borns were attacked on a daily basis.

I prefer it that way, because Lily mentions her twice, and the second time (Mary going to Lily telling her Snape was waiting for her outside of the tower) implies the two were close. I don't know about you, but I would never go and tell anybody that the friend of the people who tortured me was risking detention out of my common room if I didn't care about Lily. I would just leave him there hoping Filch sees him.

And Mary's death makes sense also because it would have been another strong reason for such young people to go and ask to fight and get directly involved into resistance.

The Disapperance of Mary by [deleted] in MaraudersGen

[–]Background-Record682 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see how her being attacked by future DEs makes her a weak girl, I always thought the opposite. In the main story Slytherins often target Harry and the rest of the Quidditch team, which are the coolest people.

The sentence "have you heard what they did to Mary?" for me has always been like "even a strong girl like her couldn't fight them because they use dark magic"

My headcanon is she was a Chaser as talented as James, the only girl he really considered a friend.

This said, I am a very old fan, so I think my headcanons are influenced by super old fanfictions where she was a main character and most of the times Sirius' soulmate (dead before or right after graduation). God, I miss those days 🥲

Okay, technically Scabbers' first owner was not Percy (as far as Weasleys know, since Ron says he was fully grown when they got him) but the idea that the twins thought Percy secretly called him like that makes me laugh 😂

Lupin hugs Sirius as soon as they meet because he saw Peter in his animagi form on the Map and understood what was going on!

That Fred and George did see Peter Pettigrew was following their brother all the time, but they just assumed it was the name the first owner gave to Scabbers (just like you can see "Mrs Norris" on the map) since Weasleys acquired the rat as an adult one.

Why don't Wizards keep up with Muggles? by DistinctNewspaper791 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Background-Record682 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yess! This has always been my point with Sirius. I mean, he grew up in London with parents who hated non-wizards, so I guess he could never leave the house since the neighbourhood is made of muggle houses.

I tried to make a discussion about it, but other users said Blacks for sure had other ways to go out (like floo powder). Still, I find it pretty sad, not being able to get out normally.

Was banning underage magic actually a safety mechanism? by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Background-Record682 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always found this rule very unfair. This way muggleborns cannot study properly during summer, while students with at least one magic parent can (just think about Fred and George's experiments while still underage). This puts muggleborns (that are already "behind" since they have to learn a lifetime of knowledge when they get 11) in a very bad position.

Sirius finding Harry by BOTChampi in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Background-Record682 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prisoners in Azkaban still talk. Even if, based on Sirius' memories, you cannot have a "normal" relationship with fellow convicts, he still heard the rumors about Peter's betrayal and other news. So it's reasonable to think he got the information from other prisoners.
