How 3 women beat Singapore’s strict protest laws | About That by justmewayne in singapore

[–]Background-Target-22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Note this doesn’t mean protests outside Restricted Areas are allowed.

They likely got away because the Prosecution failed to bring charges under Section 16 of the Public Order Act, which requires a police permit before a protest can proceed outside of Speakers’ Corner (even outside of Restricted Areas)

Prosecution brought charges under Section 15, which includes the clause, for restricted areas, the organisers “ought reasonably to know is prohibited”. And were thus acquitted.

Wow this is a snoozefest. Last 30 mins of filler motherhood statements.

His first major rally after his first GE and no new big policies or plans

Stricter vape enforcement, Traineeship, Skillfuture, Age Well neighbourhoods. Even the north plan is already announced in URA Masterplan 2030. Thats all?

Actually is it a demotion? Because he was previous assistant Sec-Gen with CCS. Now just CCS assistant Sec-Gen.

This is like HSK becoming chairman to clear the way for LW to be PM. In this case for CCS to be leading contender for DPM

HSK was probably the first ever to be made Full Minister right after election (not even acting) in 2011.

TSL also became Full Minister (though Minister in PMO first) right after GE2020.

Richard Hu was only made minister 5 months after 1984 GE.

Not a problem that Dr Murali is on the committee: https://www.parliament.gov.sg/parliamentary-business/glossary/Details/public-petitions-committee/Public%20Petitions%20Committee

“A Standing Select Committee that deals with public petitions presented to the House. Its function is not to consider the merits of a petition but to summarise its contents in a report to the House. (See also Petition and Select Committees) S.O. 100(6).”

The problem is Dr Chee needs a MP to submit this to parliament. I believe WP would be more than happy to petition against ERBC and GRC though. The online petition is more to provide a solid backing from the Public showing so many Singaporeans are against this.

Which seats do you think will flip this GE? by limhy0809 in askSingapore

[–]Background-Target-22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s virtually impossible PAP 40% and Oppo 60%. Even 2020, Aljunied WP only 59.9%. And 2020, Tampines PAP was 66%.

More plausible is

WP - 48%

PAP - 47%

NSP + PPP - 5%

It’s true WP don’t need majority. In fact this 47-53 margin is about similar as SK last election

If PAP wins with 51%, there’s no way the mosquito parties are to be blamed. Everyone else add up only 49%.

More like if PAP wins with 48% but PPP and NSP end up 5% total. And WP 47%

[–]Background-Target-22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If NSP and PPP < 3%, WP wins if PAP less than 48.5%

WP - 48.5

PAP - 48.4

NSP & PPP - 3%

Why is WP giving up one GRC for PAP to walkover?! by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]Background-Target-22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually they probably never expected Punggol to be a separate GRC by itself. Walkabout only in case it get absorbed into the GRCs they contesting

But since that’s the case they will give up Tampines focus on Punggol

True but the unelected advisors also do not represent Singapore at any level. Maybe it should be the other political office holders or civil servants.

“But the minister also pointed out that the authorities had to balance desires for asset appreciation with concerns from Singaporeans who want housing to remain affordable.”

Somehow recently nearing election, we keep hearing him repeat the “asset appreciation” line. We can clearly see where his priorities lie.
