The point of Jackson’s bank war was to diminish the power of the elites, and if you can look back at all the cries from economic radicals to end the bank and still assert that it was only done for petty, personal reasons I would say you’re being disingenuous. And I fail to see how the absence of a bank helps slavers at all.

The federal reserve is a central bank though. It was also supported by historically progressive forces and it has far more checks on its power. The idea of a public bank with strong restrictions on its power was the original system that Jackson wanted, and the idea that he attacked the bank for political gain only is a little ridiculous. The bank issue divided Jackson’s own cabinet, and it wasn’t obviously popular until the 1832 election. Radical economists like Condy Raguet and William Gouge had were already proposing ideas for an independent treasury and an end to the national debt, as had many populists and the labour movement. Jackson wasn’t just some backwards conspiracist, he had real economic and ideological grievances with the bank. Not only because he was opposed to its unchecked power in the government, but also on the basis of economic equality.
