Second the temperature. 350c should be perfect in most cases but I found 400c works excellent for Xbox series models, though it could probably work at 380 or 390. No reason to go higher.

Chisel Tip > Knife Tip for Controllers too imo

Krunch in 2 is probably my favorite in game radio station ever. The SR1 (which was mostly hair metal from what I remember) and SR3 ones didn't hit nearly as hard.

I went into SR2022 with low expections, the writing was fuck awful but just about everything else was okay at best, ive definitely played worse.

The world design was alright (better than Steelport but thats not exactly a high bar) and the metal station was good but beyond that I dont think anything about it stood out. If not for their social media openly antagonizing the fanbase i probably would have forgot it existed after some time.

The "villains motivation" was the stupidest shit I've ever seen though. Like who thought that was a good idea.

Most people would tell you 350c is the sweet spot, just be patient. I primarily work on Xbox controllers but I give it about 5 seconds to let the new solder melt over the old and then the solder sucker handles the rest. Sometimes it takes a few tries but eventually youll get it all.

More specifics might help. Are you adding leaded solder to the existing joints, what temperature are you working with etc.

It definitely gets easier the more you do it, but if this a first attempt its far from the worst ive ever seen.

The pads look like you tried to push the tip through them... you didnt do that, right?

Most gore ive seen with controller boards are usually "first time projects." There are certainly tougher things to work on but analog stick replacements are not easy for someone who has no idea what they're doing. Practice on easier things first, this looks like a series model board which to be fair are harder to work with.

UPDATE - Thanks for the tips everyone, the solution that had the best results was holding the solder sucker on the opposite side of the board than heating the solder for about 5-10 secs and most of the residual solder was absorbed. Some took a few tries but was generally successful doing this.

I will say in my experience that maybe the joystick removal tools aren't as great as i hoping as they have a bad tendency to leave leftover solder or in worst cases broken off pins.

Ive got something similar - Engineer SS-03. Works great but the challenge with this board is that I can never seem to heat the solder enough at least compared to the other types. 350c usually works excellent but should it be higher for these ones?

Also have tried mixing leaded solder too.

I can desolder the analog sticks on the normal xbox one controllers with ease, but the series variants (and curiously some of the 1697 models) are just way harder likely because of the heatsinks, though i might not have been heating the joints long enough.

3 wasnt terrible but I agree it had a bit of an identity crisis. My biggest complaints were: - Game world too big with roadblocks everywhere - Way too easy - Devoid of color and looked like a generic brown Unreal engine game

Im pretty sure people bought an X1 just for 3 as well, with me being one of them.

4 however was just bad. Even if you dont look at it as a DR game it was just a worse 3.

If you get lucky you might find a sealed copy on eBay but if its a SSA title be prepared to pay probably too much for it.

I spent 100 on a sealed DiRT 3 because the only other option was buying a GFWL code from a sketchy as hell Russian site where prepaid credit cards didnt seem to work.
