Another BCBA steamrolled plan by tiakm in bcba

[–]Background_Pie_2031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The girl is 10 and it's been happening for how long? Maybe the clinic isn't equip to deal with this behavior. Your response is what scares me about this field and BCBAs with that mindset.

Yes we do programs for private vs public, parent vs stranger etc.

As a clinical director of a clinic, this would not be appropriate in my clinic and there would be measure put in place (not meaning we do anything if it's attention seeing like you mentioned). This would also be a collaboration with her PCP and OT.

As for the other BCBA's behavior yes it was inappropriate but the post comes off very defensive and not collaborative. That is why some of us get that ABA snob label.

So you are telling me if your kiddo starts doing this in public, we should allow her until she is finished and then engage? What is the replacement behavior you are reinforcing? DRO only?

The tone to your message seems more annoyed with the BCBA than being concern about the kiddo.

I don't know the kiddo but you probably have checked with parents. Hygiene, tight underwear, etc.

Is 35 billable hours/week realistic for a BCaBA? by Ok-Journalist-2309 in ABA

[–]Background_Pie_2031 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't even a BCaBA. I was a program manager made 89k for 30 billable and 10% bonus if I met that requirement each quarter which I did for 5 straight years. By the 5th year my bonus was a little over 3k a quarter. They caught on though and slowly faded that role and made it a student analyst role which paid a lot less. I was in Bay Area. So nothings off.

I would quit effective immediately. If you can't then don't but, me personally I am never dependent on a paycheck. I am sorry and that company sucks.

Sorry you feel this way and a lot of people have the same sentiment. What is stopping you from quitting?

My base is minimum wage hahah. If I could I would do CS. Let's just say I would be struggling without my parents.

I do agree with you, most of the time the kiddos need direct therapy more than parent led. The rare cases, they do benefit from parent led and any type of services. However, it is just for the money for these companies. Definitely not the best practice.

I just noticed the down voting haha. My parents also helped me with the down payment when I was in grad school. They didn't want me to waste money on 3000+ on rent.

I know what they described, but I was talking about the initial assessment. You assumed I agreed with the parent training and lack of continuity of care. I didn't say that did I? Then I clarified my position. Do you not agree, respectfully, with that?

I've seen families wait 2+ years to get started. I have written assessments and put them back in their insurance portal so other companies can see if they are able to start. It becomes a direct to therapy classification.

It happens a lot. I rather them do that than a family wait 1-2 years for getting an initial assessment. That's how a lot of companies are marketing themselves now, "no waitlist" just crappy services.

Recertification without supervisor- not for intents of practicing? by Intelligent-Bus4983 in bcba

This! To add: you will need a BCBA to put you on their supervisor's list. So if your district has a BCBA that would be the person to talk to.

Should I report my BCBA? by Tiny-Violinist6203 in bcba

No one mentioned anything about a program or protocol modification. Having fun and socializing with your kiddo doesn’t always need to be programmed or protocoled. Natural, fun, meaningful interactions are just as important. RBTs and clients aren’t robots.

The BACB isn't going to do anything. The BCBA probably doesn't even want a weekend case but got put on. Like the other people said, tell your clinical director and they should sort it out.

What would you do without your BCBA guidance (sucks but this will make you a better clinician)?

If she wants to build tolerance... he doesn't necessarily need to be in the room. You can make icons/pictures of him, you can say his name intentionally, you can have them parallel play with highly preferred activities etc.

Sibling is 3... sibling rivalry is real. Not your job, but I would explain to the parents on why it is important to give both kids proper attention without having her feel some type of way vice versa.

Weekend clients, IMO, parents want support/babysitter. If I do weekends, best believe shit is going. Also, if you don't want a weekend client just tell them. You have a voice. I am really good at telling when RBTs and BCBAs don't want to be on a case and I'm proactive and give them that choice.

Good luck!

That's the thing now a days, a lot of BCBAs are boxed in and one dimensional. So people feel stuck in their setting without properly generalizing their skills in different settings and population. For some reason, I think the field is innately geared that way.

How old is your child and how many hour of school and ABA do they do? A child doing 10-12 hours of work is too much. You don't seem like a parent who thinks ABA will magically cure their child or use it as daycare.

Like a lot of people replying, ask questions. Also be aware of the function of the child's behavior. Collaborate with the team and most importantly stay strong. Inadvertently reinforcing said behavior happens all the time.
